I bought a house for my FC, but housing Savage was a nightmare!

Reading this thread has tainted the dreams of getting a house full of plants for my bun bun. Aaaaaaah I'm happy OP managed to score a house though! It's a shame that it takes giving yourself hand cramps and arthritis in your wrist just to get a house. :C

Squeenix is trying to toe a fine line here of managing backlash. If they were to add too much housing, people who already have houses would complain loudly about how people are getting houses easier than they did.

I legit lol'd at this. Why? Because the FC I'm in had to pay $90 mil gil for our large back before the housing prices were reduced. So people and FCs now already have it easier to get a house in regards to gil (which is also far easier to obtain than it was back when housing costs were so much more). I don't think anyone in the FC fussed about that. We had to battle to get housing still - it happened during the great Christmas demo several years ago. It was demos happening (for the first time ever) on all worlds on Christmas day, not all servers went at the same time. And when houses popped on your server it was a literal race with others to secure a plot.

Also when I got my personal it was so super easy to get. I had my pick of houses. It was well before housing prices were reduced and when there were a ton of plots open on all the servers. It's much more difficult now to get a house than it was back then. I would LOVE if SE would open it up so anyone who wants a house - personal or FC - can have one. I'm not going to shake my fist and say "back in my day... and these whippersnappers just get a house so easy and at half the price I did".

You might not be able to get one in the near future but don't give up hope. There will be a large number of houses being added when Ishgard housing opens in 6.1 and always a chance that SE will decide to add more wards at some other time.

In the meantime, you can always get an apartment and fill it up with plants. The ratio of items to floor space is the highest for apartments/FC private chambers though small houses come close (it's bad for mediums and horrible for larges). It will give you a chance to practice decorating and coming up with designs so once you do get a house you'll be ready.

Most people who want a large that aren't in a dead server are being forced to buy them off of other people. For example, mine was 180m and I've never seen a large pop in Primal or Aether in the year almost that I've been around. All of the people I speak to on a daily basis that have larges have also bought them off of other people.

(Just a clarification before someone asks: I have not personally SEEN any but I have read in housing discords that a couple popped during the recent demo reinstatement that went down. The only issue is that the wilds were taken up within 1-2 minutes of being advertised. So, I should say: You need even more luck than camping a plot + a tank of a PC (particularly with load times) to beat out everyone to get a large at plot price in the blue moon that they do decide to pop wild).

All I have to say is that the weird 6+ hour wait time for a plot to actually go up for sale is pretty rough. I mean even just shrinking that down to 1 hour would be enough of a bore, no?

Instead I'm shaking my fist at SE for making house acquisition and supply so terrible. I got my house several years ago and I didn't become magically okay with the system when I finally got my plot. SE can and should do better.

I understand that and not everyone is going to get a large because they are in such high demand and there are precious few of them. That's a whole other ball of wax for SE to sort out (if they ever do). My FC was lucky to be able to snag a large at all when that first demolition took place. My personal is a small. At the time I could have bought a medium or a large if I'd wanted (I got my personal before I was in the FC I'm in now and when obtaining a house was only hampered by your gil, not plot availability). I could have relocated my personal small to a medium or a large any time new wards have been opened - I just happen to like my small so haven't bothered. I just want everyone to be able to purchase an actual house - personal or FC - regardless of size. That's just not even an option right now.

Edit: The first demo that ever happened also had no timers for plots and relocation wasn't an option (if I remember correctly on that last part). So we were lucky in that regard as well.

I'm in agreement with you? I'm not okay with how it is either. I was responding to that guy that people who got their houses aren't going to suddenly be upset if housing opens up to where everyone can have one.

Nah I wasn't trying to correct you or argue with you at all, was just saying that even as a person who got a house during a time when it was incredibly difficult to I would never direct any anger at those who have an easier time. Instead I'm directing it at SE for not making it easier. I think the housing content itself is wonderful and I loathe that so many are deprived of the joy of experiencing it due to no fault of their own.

Gotcha. I agree. I love my house and I really wish everyone could have one. It shouldn't be limited and it should be easy to acquire.
