Sure you can counter it with some rings, but now your still losing stats that you could have had added to.

That staff is great and personally i use it when doing content so i am usually not attacking with magic cause i have to keep everyone alive, but when its time to solo i bust out my Ifrits staff for that extra dmg.

I personally would like it if we could still get the MP regen with our weapons out so long as we weren't moving or attacking. Wouldn't that solve the issue?

I like that. I like to be in active mode when I have a shield on, so that I have the chance of blocking an attack if I pull hate and the monster wants to smack me around a bit.

The lesser of two evils... what's the competition? I'm not really sure what you're getting at.

It's easily the best in slot for a WHM role unless you have a quad meld+ materia weapon or something.
