They started jump puzzles on vistas with HW IIRC with the CWH bridge. They just doubled down in SB. But even back when Gold Saucer came out I remember some GATE that did involve some form of jumping. Just not necessarily an entire puzzle. I wish they had never implemented them for sightseeing at all and kept that sort of thing in GC where they can and do all sorts of different challenges. The jumps onto things like the lamppost in Ul'Dah for ARR sightseeing you can eventually line up and get. It's not the fine control you need for a jumping puzzle. And they're easy to retry. So those weren't too bad and you could keep at it until you got it. It was a decent challenge. But as others have mentioned, controls and hitboxes for jumping puzzles in this game are really janky. It's not designed for platforming. So it makes those much more of a chore than fun to do like the ARR ones.
There have been jump puzzles attached to Vistas since day one. Apkallu falls, and such. Not the elaborate ones we have now, but it was always a thing to some extent. (And they still predate the Gold Saucer.)
I never really counted that one as a jump puzzle, or the lamp post one in Ul'Dah, or that one on the wall in Gridania since it's just climbing up somewhere and lining yourself up. Or that jump in the SB MSQ. That was just some minor platforming. So maybe more like jump challenges?
It's the ones with consecutive jumps that I see people call actual jump puzzles and where problems lie, since it's one janky jump after another and they're not easy to reset for another try if you're far along.
None of the jumping puzzles are really "puzzles" beyond figuring out how to get from A to B and figuring out how to line yourself up.I never really counted that one as a jump puzzle, or the lamp post one in Ul'Dah, or that one on the wall in Gridania since it's just climbing up somewhere and lining yourself up. Some of those ARR ones are definitely bigger head scratchers than anything on Kugane Tower, which is very clear and straightforward and the challenge is in the execution more than solving anything.
It's also possible the term is inaccurately being adopted from another game and we're all just splitting hairs.

I've done this. Spent a week on top of the lamp post, talking with people, making friends, and reviving folks up into place.Someone on my server was offering raises to BLUs who self destructed near the lamp post so they could be raised on top of it for the log entry toward the end of Stormblood. I'm guessing it still happens every now and then. I'd have never bothered with it otherwise. Climbing that tower once was enough.
Made so much progress towards the reviging people achivements that way.
