Is your problem making it, or is the problem how you spend it?

Even if you're not actively selling things on the MB, the game is throwing gil your way for doing just about any content that isn't PvP or Gold Saucer.

Levequests reward gil - might as well use up all those leve allowances you're accumulating.

Treasure maps reward gil in addition to the loot drops.

Many of the challenge log entries reward gil.

Roulettes reward gil your first time plus there's the Adventurer in Need bonus.

Doman Enclave is worth 40k a week once you've completed all the quests (the 20k value of the items donated plus an additional 20k bonus).

Daily and weekly hunt bills reward gil (not to mention you can use any Allied or Centurio Seals earned to buy Aetheryte tickets so you can stop paying teleport fees).

Side quests reward gil. Beast tribe dailies reward gil.

None of the amounts are huge but they all add up as you do more content. Making gil isn't a problem as long as you're actively playing the game. I have to laugh those times I'm passing by the Limsa Aetheryte and see people complaining about being poor. Of course they're poor. They're sitting there doing nothing instead of doing something that will earn gil.

Now spending it wisely is a problem for many players. They don't pay attention to what they're buying. The only notice they've run out when they don't have enough for the next item they wanted to buy. You'll end up with a lot of gil if you do the content the rewards the item you want yourself instead of heading to the MB to buy for convenience.
