It's hard because you really don't need gil for anything as an average player. I mean maybe teleports, but there's nothing to passively take gil out of the economy. Housing doesn't even work because people have 100s of millions and the house didn't put a dent in that. Also you don't need a house so.
The problem with this is you're adding cost for the sake of cost to a system that should quite frankly be integral to the game, and not as a means of milking someone for their Gil, honestly. You'd get a lot of backlash from players- Simply because they view it as essential and not a luxury system.

If they're going to incorporate more Gil sinks then monthly taxation to housing would be nice- Makes perfect sense too! Buyable MGP in bulk beyond the 500 that you can get typically. Rare or annoying quests that'd require the player to accumulate and use a certain amount of Gil in order to complete the quest; think of it as a donation of sorts. Buyable, short-term buffs similar to those added for Free Company and Squadron; albeit more efficient and potent, but on a more short-term basis like an hour. I know some won't be a fan of this; but a buyable fantasia for 10-20M, that doesn't allow the same breadth of customization as a regular Mogstation one; perhaps something to allow change of height or characteristics for your current race- e.g. can't be used as a race change. Luxury things that good stuff. I'd never support effective taxation on the use of glamour plates simply because it's far too integral to the players' experience

The issue with their current approach is that unless they do something that is repetitive and makes sense then people who actively, or even passively seek Gil will always generate more than what is being asked for with the items in question. I would hazard to say with their current systems any given player with the requisite Gil to purchase the mounts can generate enough Gil over the course of the patch cycle to offset the costs of the mounts and minions- I don't mean player trading of the sorts, but generating it from the server itself via Levequests. So if they really want this charade to work they ought to probably neuter the Gil rewards from Levequests. Between now and 6.0 across all of my characters I will be able to generate 60,988,235 - 81,317,647 Gil just from levequests.
