So do the game equivalent of what Jeff Bezos did in real life - spend hours working hard providing a service others will pay for. Many players would rather pay someone else to do the work to get the items they want than do the work themselves. I do that work and then sell them the items via the marketboard. I get richer while they get poorer because they didn't want to put in the effort but I did.

Crafting and gathering is not the only way. There are items that come from quest rewards, items you can buy with tomestones and GC seals, items you get from treasure maps and lockboxes, items you get from retainer ventures. There are roulette bonuses for being Adventurer in Need and bonuses from challenge log. HW/SB/ShB daily and weekly hunt bills reward gil in addition to seals that can be used to buy things you can either sell for gil or use in place of gil (hello Aetheryte tickets, goodbye teleport fees).

There's a tremendous number of gil making opportunities in the game if you're willing to put in the effort. If you aren't willing, then you're not going to get the gil.
Lmao it was a joke
