If it's just a "well, I don't have anything else to do with my gil", skip it and save the gil for things that might be added in the future.

Exactly. There's no point in blowing a huge sum of gil on something you don't even like that much just because it exists and you didn't have anything else to buy. That tells the Devs that we'll sink our gil on almost anything and the only work they need to put in is slapping a high price tag on cheap things. If you like it, great, if not then see if they add something better later. Especially now we know they're open to the idea of fancy gil sinks.
