My money is currently at 21 million but I just don't know what to buy, hahah.

I don't know if its worth it to buy hairstyle that cost 9 million or various mounts in the millions too.... Well, maybe right now that is all that my money should be directed to... I don't know.

Are you certain you're that low because of gil sinks, or is it because you've been buying items from other players?

Buying from other players is not a gil sink (though the 5% market tax you pay when buying off the MB is). The gil just changes hands and stays in the game economy. A gil sink removes it from the economy completely.

The game does have a lot of little gil sinks (market tax, teleport fees, repair fees, melding fees) but no major ones other than housing. Unless most of the content you do is PvP or Gold Saucer games (which don't reward gil), the gil you're earning should accumulate very quickly compared to what you lose on those small gil sinks.

If you're definitely going to use something and you've got enough gil, buy it. If it's just a "well, I don't have anything else to do with my gil", skip it and save the gil for things that might be added in the future.

The development team does watch player buying habits to get a better idea of what players want to have in the game (actions can speak louder than words, especially if they're not getting much direct feedback). If we're buying stuff we don't want, they'll keep adding more of it thinking that we really do want those items. Same for content - do the content because you enjoy it so they're encouraged to add more of that content to the game.

Exactly. There's no point in blowing a huge sum of gil on something you don't even like that much just because it exists and you didn't have anything else to buy. That tells the Devs that we'll sink our gil on almost anything and the only work they need to put in is slapping a high price tag on cheap things. If you like it, great, if not then see if they add something better later. Especially now we know they're open to the idea of fancy gil sinks.
