    Gil sinks

It's nice to see that SE is starting to add some substantial gil sinks other than housing to the game.

But I am disappointed that all we're getting (at least for now) are recolors of existing mounts. I know there are players who consider themselves collectors and will buy them just for the sake of owning them but personally I feel no desire to spend millions of gil to buy one of the mounts for myself when I'd choose to use the originals I already have over the recolors.

Now that SE is open to adding gil sinks to the game, what types of items would most interest you?

Mounts are a good start but I would at least like them to be variations on existing models if not completely unique. If they must be recolors, make them interesting recolors (solid gold doesn't cut it for me).

Glamour is always good, though I know the art team is already hard at working making new gear for content in general. Perhaps a new glamour contest for players to design glamours that will become gil sinks, or using some of the designs from past contests? Dyeable versions of gear sets that can't be currently be dyed would be another good choice.

Dyes. There are still colors we would like to have access to. Adding those to the Junkmongers and other vendors at the prices that we tend to see the more popular General Purpose dyes selling would be nice.

More fashion accessories. Right now there is the Vermillion Paper Parasol as a gil sink but it's the only one out of the dozen or so fashion accessories currently available. The rest have other sources. This might be another good area for a player contest to submit ideas for new fashion accessories that could be turned into gil sinks.

Might sound a bit out of place but the ability to gift wrap items we're giving to friends. How much fun it would be for them to have to unwrap an item to see what they're getting just as we need to have lockboxes opened to see what those contain instead of having the items placed directly into our inventory when completing content.

There are enough gil sinks for someone who only plays battle classes, otherwise I would be rich after all these years. I'm currently at 1.6 million.

These gil sinks are more specifically for people who play crafters and gatherers too.

You should have way more than that. Just doing roulettes as adv in need would net you roughly 100k a day. I don't craft or gather to make money and I'm over 100 mil...

I often spend it on crafted gear for my battle classes, HQ food, HQ potions, chocobo food for leveling, orchestrions, fashion report, it all easily falls away.

Sometimes I've spent it on mounts and minions, but this was really when I got gil from a one-off selling of materia from hunting.

It takes a while to build up a million from roulettes, particularly if you skip lengthy ones like Main Scenario and Alliance Raids. I level every class every expansion through roulettes, and got all of the tank mounts through roulettes too and cap tomestones through expert roulettes, and only recently stopped having a reason to do roulettes.

Many games have this. I was a bit disappointed to see it wasn't in FFXIV. It's a really nice way to make gift giving a bit more special.

And yes this game is in dire need of gil sinks, I agree with all of your suggestions. Cosmetic things don't lose value the way items with stats do, especially if the only way to get them is to throw a large amount of gil at a npc, provided they're market prohibited of course.

And what about players who don't? Many are the sort of person who won't play a class unless they're interested in it. It's far from rare. There should be gil sinks appealing to several types of players.

A golden glow surrounding a character would be a neat fashion accessory or emote, I reckon.

    Cool thread idea~
I'm personally surprised they don't have more orchestrion scrolls or minions you buy from a vendor. I think that could be a good start.

Though, instead of a big one time payment like a house or a mount I think it's more effective for the "sink" to take away from you bit by bit (like teleportation or repair costs).
So one of the sinks I'd really like is, and this one might be kinda dumb... but use a gil sink for crafting.
If I'm missing a Coerthan Leaf, instead of tabbing out of game, looking up where it is, and going to try and gather it, if I could substitute in gil for (some) common items.
Saves me hassle, and would help free up a LOT of inventory space. Like... damn theres a lot of random pieces I'd be able to ditch without fear.
Not sure how they'd Index the substitution price though to not stiff gatherers and have those items whither on the MB.

I love those design contests and ho boy have they given us some great pieces.
    Skallic, Bonewicca, Late Allagan, etc...
At least a piece from each of the winners has made it into one of my glams somewhere, if not inspired wholly new ones.
This would be a very compelling gil sink for me.

And I love your gift wrap idea.
Especially if we can gift wrap things and then mail them.

Have to admit while I like the idea of golden gil sink mounts, these didn't excite me too much. Perhaps it's because they chose to reskin Beast Tribe mounts, which as much as they're nice as casual mounts are probably some of the least prestigious since they're freebies tied to 5 minute easy dailies. Or perhaps it's just that they're reskins. Or both. Either way I probably won't buy them.

I don't think we need a large amount of gil sink items, but things like unique mounts, emotes, an extra large house for gil cap or even a black market auction for currently unobtainable items would be rather interesting.

Gil sinks are a nice prospect, can't say that I entirely like their approach to it though; just giving these golden-skinned mounts.. If I'm being blunt it's very obnoxious. I'd have liked for them to be unique and more of a variety. Mounts, Minions, Emotes, Bardings, Furnishings.

I don't really find myself greatly enticed by this though if all we're getting is Gold-skinned nonsense.
