SE will never do that. Thats to far on the hardcore side. FFXIV leans very heavily casual. It's interesting how MP works best when it's basically used as a job gauge; DRK, PLD, BLM being poignant cases. When you have MP you feel like you can do great things... it's exciting to have and full of opportunity, which is how it should feel.
I think a goal for the next expansion would be perhaps make MP feel more exciting to have. For healers, I think attack spells and your super basic heals should be free (like they are in PvP), but some of your oGCDs and really powerful GCDs should have MP costs. MP would kind of act as a third balancing lever in addition to the efficacy and cooldown, so you could for example have oGCDs with low CDs but they are expensive to use, kind of like TBN is on DRK.
For jobs that never use MP, the bar shouldn't be on our HUD at all. As a WAR I'd love if it just put my meat gauge there.

It arguably has a lot for the casual player to benefit from. Spells that weaker players use as a crutch like Cure or Medica 1 or Physick go from costing little to now costing nothing, and abilities new players feel like "should only be used in emergency" like Benediction can still be made free to have no MP cost.

Yes. Because magic hammer.

There would be no point playing a magi without mana that straight up strips the entire identity of mages
Probably said before but MP is still a meaningful resource to most of the jobs.
BLM treats MP so dynamically that it feels like a gauge of its own.
I'd say, maybe make it more impactful for healers... It's nearly impossible of run out of MP if you're using your free tools optimally due to how scripted the fights are.

Eh, not really.
WAR and GNB don’t use MP. None of the 4 melee DPS use it. None of the 3 physical ranged use it. Healers barely have to monitor it unless shat is really hitting the fan. Same with SMN and RDM—they’re only impacted by death or multiple raises in the case of RDM. BLM uses it...but you could also just rework their Astral/Umbral phases into a gauge and it be more or less the same thing, really. DRK and PLD could also be reworked without MP, so it’s not as meaningful a resource in my opinion.

I don't really see the point of removing the MP gauge in general, except for the jobs that just don't use it, since at the end of the day it's just another meter that empties and refills at set intervals. I suppose we could get more individual job flavor if that resource was renamed on a per-job basis but unless the gameplay of them changes in some way then it doesn't matter either way. I dunno just seems like a weird change but then again so was the removal of TP to me when it happened but that accompanied gameplay changes to justify it.
Do we need MP anymore? I mean this is a JRPG so I guess yeah since it's a staple design trope of the genre, but I wouldn't miss it if was taken away or retooled.
