my friend recently got into the game and i've been helping them do the main story quests, and their really loving the heavensward story, and i remember back in the day there was a cutscene where alphy walks in on y'shtola in the nude and it uh leaves a lasting impression on him. however after we're about to unlock stormblood now and she still hasnt seen that cutscene yet so i came here to ask, did they remove it? or am i remembering the story incorrectly or whats goin on cause its confusing me

I'm certain the scene you're referring to is still here, though it is less he walked in on her in such a compromising position and more he was present when she was returned in a compromising position. The "lasting impression" is a result of Y'shtola commenting on his artistic talent and impeccable memory during Main Scenario, I believe, while in the Dravanarian Forelands.

Y'shtola was being summoned from her situation which she was left at during the end of AAR. Alphinaud didn't really do anything improper there.

No, it's not been removed. The WoL along with Kan-e-senna and all the other present(Tataru/Y'mitra/Alphinaud) see Y'shtola in the buff, though we viewers are blocked from seeing the naughty bits by the dazzling white light. The Seedseer guards quickly throw a blanket over her. The scene you describe never existed.

After that Tataru shoos the WoL and Alphinaud out of the inn room so that Y'shtola can change into her new outfit.

The closest thing to what you describe takes place later during the quest where you hunt for Thancred with Krile, Y'shtola, and Alphinaud. They're pondering why Thancred would send Gnath to do his trading and not go himself, and then Alphinaud says this:

Alphinaud: "Well, if you recall, you yourself emerged from the Lifestream as naked as your nameday. It's a scene I shall never forget-"

Y'shtola, crossing her arms: "Is it now?"

Alphinaud, taken aback: "Well, I was pleased to see you! I-I mean-- It was a simple statement of fact!" "It stands to reason that Thancred found himself in the same predicament!"
