EDIT: Oh, are you talking about boosts? I suppose that's the other thing, although I would count that under the base game+expansion since that's all they are.

It's a compromise. There are a lot of players who believe games should have limited time rewards and only those playing at that time should have those rewards. Objections are less when those rewards can only be obtained later as a real money purchase.

Personally I'd rather see a system where a player could choose to spend their event currency on any of the event's rewards past or present but at least this is better than those rewards never being available at all.

It's a shame they didn't just do what XI does for its seasonal events: rewards from previous years either available for purchase with gil or kept obtainable in their original methods by doing different activities in said event. I guess the tradeoff on that though is that XI's events are almost completely static with the same dialogue and decorations each single time for the most part.

Never had anyone complain that people experiencing say Starlight Celebration 2017 also had access to rewards from Starlight Celebrations 2005 - 2016 but people are weird about exclusivity in games.

The only content that FFXIV sells outside of the base game and the expansions is the ceremony of eternal bond.

There's a free version of that, if you don't mind your wedding clothes not being dyable.

They could have reissued previous years events as an option. Would have been nice for newer players to experience the older events.

It's Good Friday and still no announcement about Hatching Tide. I guess we're not getting an Easter Event this year.

FFXIV did do this before the mog station existed. You could get the past event stuff with gil in the game.

There was a joke SE did yesterday on the official FFXIV Twitter account - a faux announcement of a "character creation mode being added to the upcoming FFVII Remake Ep II that allows you to change Cloud into a miqo'te", and a supposed promotion with the LA Times website giving away the /playdead emote for free which was just a Rickroll, but nothing was done here.

I admit I kind of miss the likes of the Omega smartspeaker video or our forum avatars changed into funny things (like the time we all became Yoshi)...
