It is always infinitely easier to blame a game or expect it to change for you, rather than admit it could be you while you change for it. Comments like "Git Gud" are unhelpful at face-value, but is often (surprisingly) the right answer in most of said threads.

If I learned anything back when I was a newcomer to FFXIV, it's that the game absolutely loves making it painfully obvious what it expects you to do - be it introductory mechanics or literal monologues in the middle of the screen screaming at you to DO THIS THING IF YOU WANT TO BEAT THE DUTY. I could be wrong, and I have no desire to play RDM to find out, but I hazard a guess that the NPC being mentioned in the thread is probably spewing dialogue along the lines of "Keep dem big bawls of fire off mah azz!" in big, bright, noticeable speech bubbles smack in the middle of the screen that a lot of people blot out of sight and mind while playing. I know I've done it plenty of times and probably failed once or twice for not reading things as a result, but you won't find me blaming the game for those cases. You won't fail many duty's in the game, but if you do, be sure to try and properly absorb it on repeat attempts. It's generally something simple being missed while you go through the 'dodge all the AoE' motions.

Got all but a few classes to 70-80 and their respective class-quests are the last thing that have challenged me in any capacity. As said, they are often made painfully obvious through dialogue or mechanics and the vast majority get grossly annihilated by the next tier of gear, which is easy to acquire as an omni-crafter (or someone who caps their tomes and knows where to buy the latest set during levelling milestones). Alas, the poster seems to have been wearing 50% level 50 and 50% Shire at the time, which is basically a big no-no, yet you see it alllllll the time in Duty Finder. I recall meeting a tank wearing various gear-slots at up to 100il lower than others and wondering why the mobs were stinging.

I've just done this quest last week and I didn't ever think it was supposed to be difficult... Maybe there were machanics you had to do that were in other fights in the game so it was second nature to me. Maybe it's because I wait to do the quests when I have the next tier of tome gear so my stats are good, but I don't think it should be that hard...

Augmented Shire armor is ilvl 270. Straight out-of-the-box gear at level 60 will be around ilvl 150/160. This is the gear level that should be minimal (ilevel 150 or so) necessary for the level 60 quests. If the devs required ilevel 270 to complete the quest, they would have put it into the requirements for the duty.

The real trick for the quest is the casting of vercure to remove the debuff, not the fact that you overgear the quest by 120 ilevels ...

Sure, you can use poetics, if you haven't been doing MSQ and instances only and ignored those things that give you poetics, and don't spend gil on the marketboard, in the race to end-game.

It took me awhile to beat him, I realized I was really undergeared. After gearing up, it wasn't too bad. How I wished RDM played in a similar fashion as he did.

Rather than stand back and casting spells for days before going in for the melee combo.

I am guessing it was an old design they had at that time that got fixed for later expansions, it was only specifically 60 class quests that many were impossible with 50 gear, but for later expansions having full poetic gear from the previous expansion didnt really cause me any problems and was more than good enough till I could unlock the next expansion poetic gear vendor unlike 60 where I ended up having to wait for a while to get through the msq to get that lvl 60 vendor so I had to delay my samurai lvl 60 quest for quite a while since I had only just arrived at ishgard yet was 60something already.

I kinda wish they would just unlock poetics vendors when you reach that level rather than the end of the msq

The tryhard elitist is the person who is going to finish their 5 pieces on this created to be beaten """"challenge"""" and then complaint that the baby, slower or less dexterous person are a problem which not only is toxic but indirectly implies that doing this basic created to be beaten task faster is an """achievement""" of """great skill""" which helps to falsely boost the elitist's self worth as that is their true motive, if challenge was truly their desire they would relish in the chance to do more than the rest.
The healthy person on the other hand will either let people finish their part or assist them for their self worth does not depend on solving basic puzzles created to be beaten, aka as a video game.

There's a considerable difference in difficulty between doing the quest with an ilvl of 145 (what a player who just hit level 60 but hasn't obtained any level 60 gear likely has) and ilvl 270 (what you have with Augmented Shire). "Considerable" is probably an understatement, extreme might be more accurate. The upcoming stat squish in Endwalker will actually help in this situation since the gap in stats will decrease significantly.

If you want to get an idea of what it's like, job quests are now part of NG+. Get a set of the lower ilvl gear and run through the quests, then try to forget everything you know about how the fight works when you do it.

If RDM is the player's main job, their MSQ progress could be far behind their job level so they won't even have access to the Shire gear (have to complete 3.0 MSQ first). They will still have access to gear from the MB but may not be able to afford a full set of the crafted 255 gear depending on their local prices. The less gear they're able to afford, the more difficult that quest becomes.

Yep. You have to heal yourself to get rid of the debuff and the NPC you're with tells you this. Now granted it's not in speech bubbles so it's wherever you have your chat, but same concept.

No, that's the level 70 fight. And you don't need antidotes for that one if you've got Augmented Scaeven gear. The fight won't last long enough for the DoT to be a problem.

Yeah that's the 70 fight and I was amused by how many times and how many characters told you to bring some darn antidotes, lol. I was like "I think they want me to bring some antidotes."

Huh. That clearly went right over my head. I don't recall even buying antidotes (among other things) since the first week POTD came out.
