I’ve played enough f2p in my life to know that this would be a complete disaster. The game is fine as it is, stop asking that.

I'd be okay with it, depending on the model. Reality is we already have a cash shop where people not only buy cosmetics but levels/gear as well.
Honestly the only thing keeping me subbed between my routine game breaks is my house being held hostage by SE. Geniuses over at the company figured out they can keep grabbing my money if they threaten it with a bulldozer. Lost like 4 hours this way. Some even on the beach in LL or ideal areas in Shio ;.;
I have seen what happens to P2P games that go to F2P. DCUO is a prime example. I would be gone, cancel my sub and request a charge back due to fraud. Thats how much I dislike F2P games.
Whether I'd keep playing would depend on how obnoxious it is. I'm an RPer, so even if everything else goes to crap, as long as there's a good RP community, I'll have reason to stay. Whether I stay invested in anything else would a different matter. Please god never let this happen.
BUT…..
Would it change you wanting to, continuing to play? Would you rage quit? Does paying a monthly sub mean something to you?
Again, this will never happen and don’t get me wrong, I don’t want it to. But…. If it did, how would you feel?
IMO, a game going free to play or buy to play, hi rift how are you? Usually means it’s death.
Just a interesting thought I was curious on.
But I'd be hugely disappointed and worried about the game's future and probably hate it because we know what going Free to Play means. It'd likely be a turn-off and deterrent. Heck, I'd probably end up playing FFXI again and use FFXIV as an RP thing.
And it's still getting content and regular patches. Heck I still play from time-to-time. Granted the population is a lot lower but they're still making enough money to justify the current model.
Isnt that what mog station does anyways.. Thing probably makes more than subsFree to play and buy to play almost always compromise the integrity of the game because the company needs additional income for the continued developement of an mmo and the initial price of a buy to play game is not enough.
So it would either adopt a pay-to-win model or put in so many restrictions for "free players" that you essentially have to pay for a sub anyway. The former is an absolute no and the latter basically just means you're paying anyway in which case I'd rather just cut out the middleman and pay a sub from the start.
That said personaly im fine with sub however when u add a item shop should go buy game and play

I would not feel good about it, because a game of this size need to earn cash to keep running, if it went free to play, you would see a drop in content.. and most likely drop in the quality of the content as well.
I would stay no matter what.
I dont mind any game style mentioned.
If I enjoy a game, I stay...period.
If I start hating it ,then I leave. Ftp, btp, monthly sub, IS never going to decide that. (for me)
I honestly do not think this game will change,
(but... I think WOW needs to be ftp now! )
♥ MORE HIGH HEELS + INSTANCED HOUSING! ♥!
I would keep playing so long as I'm having fun, but if it goes F2P I don't imagine that'll last. Especially since I play 14 with friends so if enough in the group are unhappy it could start a real domino effect where we all just move on to another game.
Why do you say that?
SWTOR's another example. Though a lot of that shit was due to EA throwing a tantrum over the P2P model failing and due to shitty subsequent decisions by the main developer in what he felt was the best way to retain players via grind.
It's one thing if the game started F2P or buy to play. But in my experience the P2P games that go F2P VASTLY overestimate what they can get away with and it turns into a mess from the word 'go'.
