I figured it out.

The reason all the (trolling) ultimate raiders hate ERP is because it stands for Ego Related Pain.

They can't take any hits to their egos!

The FF14 community doesn't know what it's got lol. Among MMOs outside of the community, FFXIV is seen as a group of generally nice folks.

Y'all hang around in the forums way too much if you think it's otherwise - my positive experiences here have more than triumphed over my negative experiences. And those arent even neutral-positive experiences, those are positive experiences - times where I didn't quite understand a mechanic in a level 50 dungeon and a fellow sprout helped me, the times where I've shouted or asked my FC or NN chat to shoot me a rez (some people going WAY out of their way to rez me) and they do so without hesitation, my first day roaming around and getting a random trade of 100k gil (which at the time, was INSANE to me, I'd been at 3k at the time). These are just cherry picked from my repertoire of awesome, amazing experiences I've had in this community.

On the flip side, my boyfriend and his mother have told me nothing but horror stories about the WoW community (And my friend about Everquest2, but I suppose the community there is about as dark as the game itself looks). And this isn't an isolated thing either! The amount of people I've seen complaining about the FFXIV community pales in comparison to the amount of people I've seen complaining about the WoW community from WITHIN the WoW community.

This is your P.S.A For playing Final Fantasy 14. FF14 community like all MMO's has a good side and bad side. Choosing to play this game and thinking only a good side exists is silly and foolish. If you choose to play the game believing the community only has a good side, then all the shock and horror that comes when you discover the ugly side. Is all but deserved and you should not expect sympathy from the community cause you chose to think only a good side existed.
