I really thought they were going to better coordinate the ending points of the role quests with the MSQ, what with them being prerequisites for progress. But if you've paced your EXP gain right and you're still at level 79 when you reach Mt Gulg, everything after that should be within the flow of the MSQ. It was not the point where I wanted to disengage from that story and resume the entirely separate role quest story.

It would have flowed much better if the role quest wrapped up at level 78 and you could finalise it before you approached what was pretty clearly the start of the finale.

It is an MMO, it needs some form of busy work in place here and there.

All it does is make me compelled to rush through, which is disappointing because I may have otherwise been interested if I chose to do it sometime later when I was out in the world specifically to do side quests. It wasn't so much about the role quest givers, tho it was to a point. It told the story of ardberts companions. It was fairly story important. Especially if you do all of them.

And I remembered them telling us to keep up with them, so I did XD

    Personally, exploration is fine.
I don't like the ones that are locked behind quests reward though, especially the MSQ. I want to progress through MSQ at my own leisure, but then the aether current reward 'urged' me to quickly finish it to be able to fly.

They serve their purpose. They stop the 'fly-and-drop-on-the-quest-mob' foolishness that would ensue if flying was given immediately to start, but once you've done the MSQ in a zone, it's easy to be able to fly there.

I think it's a good balance, including the interlock with MSQ. YMMV.

Ehh, that's kinda accomplishing exactly the intent. Especially ever since StB, with they way they've been splitting the zones up into high- and low-level areas that you go through at different points in the story.

Aether Currents really aren't that bad. Sure they take a little (yes, only a little) time and exploration, but I fail to see how these are so miserable. You want bad? Try doing it in WoW by completing quests and then grinding reps for months and then wait about 6 months to a year, then pray that the dev team actually gives you the final achievement that actually gives you flying in current expansion zones which is completable through exploration and more rep/quest grinds. Then get back to me. I'll be waiting to hear how bad these currents are after that.

Best of both worlds would be getting rid of the currents since they are ultimately pointless, but still locking flight behind some final events of a zone. The part where you have to beat feet and get to know the layout of things directly is important, even if you'll spend the vast majority of your time flying over it all later.

It's one of the few elements of exploration in the game world, so I'd rather see the feature remain. You only need to find each aether current once, anyway - then it's done. Unless you have alts, of course.

It has little bearing on the main story itself, but rather serves as flavor. Considering you only have to do one series, you can't really claim its importance when three other role quests can still there gathering dust. In fact, I still haven't finished two of them. That isn't to say anything about their quality or whatnot. I actually liked the ones I did. It's that when I'm approaching the conclusion of Shadowbringers, my full attention is towards that and I'd rather not take a sharp detour to start/finish a completely separate storyline.
