    Fishing needs a total overhaul

    1) remove the bait concept we don't need 5864654165465435416541654654645 different types of bait

    2) overhaul to make it not take fucking hours and hundreds of bait to finish the damn quests because your stupid job quests requires you to turn in fish that are literally the most annoying things in the entire game to gather AND IT WANTS THEM HIGH QUALITY!!!!

1:- Bait is mostly fine.. the only thing i think really needs changing here is implementing a bait box or tackle box to store it in.

2:- When you get patience catching HQ is much easier. the only thing i''d probably change here is surface slap. so it prevents you catching the same fish for i dunno 2 minutes instead of 1 cast.

    I will add

3:- theres that minor annoyance when you pop your GP on patience and then get "the fish sense something amis try a new location" and put your rodaway and lose the buff... wasted GP

I only recently did the dragons deep quest quest myself and while at times it was annoying trying to catch some of the legendary fish on the whole i felt it was good fun.. those thinkgs wouldnt feel terribly legendary if they were ridiculously easy to catch..

Yoshi P has repeatedly said we will never get this.
Their stance on it is: if we can add more inventory space, instead of making it space dedicated to something specific it's better to give the players general inventory space.
This is how and why we got the Chocobo Saddlebag.
More inventory space you can use however you want.
The devs really seem to struggle with giving us more inventory room (having to redistribute the armory chest slots from belts hints at how limited they are in just giving us more) so while it'd be nice to have a tackle box, and a backpack for your gathered mats, and dedicated storage for your crafted items, and so on... it's not gonna happen.
If they add space they add it in ways that doesn't restrict how players can use that space.
With this in mind, if something needs to happen to bait then slimming the number of different baits down isn't a bad idea.

How about I don't know, 1 freshwater bait and 1 ocean bait? And everything else gets a special bait provided by the quest or a vendor like the special Diadem bait and Relic Bait? That's an option so we don't need external sites to look up for EACH AND EVERY GOD DAMNED FISH.

Oh really. I guess I missed that. Last I recall there was talk of converting baits to a system similar to triple triad cards or orchestration rolls where there not technically an inventory but I have no idea how long ago that was.

I dont mind bait though as it can be helpful at times when you want a specific fish which I do for cooking sonetimes. Rather than just a generic bait that can catch everything at that location

That's an easy fix (see, boilies) but comes with its own set of problems. With only one type of bait you lose the ability to target fish. Boilies are great for people who are trying to catch everything for log completion but terrible for people trying to catch a specific fish.

Perhaps bait could become generic and/or converted to a system similar to spear-fishing, where rather than selecting a specific bait from your inventory you pick from broad types of bait (live bait, processed bait, floating lure, sinking lure?) that would determine the type of fish you catch at that spot. You'd still be able to target different types of fish, but you'd just have four types - or functionally none in your inventory - instead of so many for locations and mediums and level ranges.

Just taking out one layer of RNG from fishing would vastly improve it.

I think if we are going to keep that many types of bait, then each bait should only be able to hook 1 type of fish in any one particular fishing hole. This means we'll be able to target the fish we need, like how we target the item to get in Mining and Botany.

Personally I also don't like the Patience design. Effectively, there's no point fishing without Patience I/II if the quest demands HQ. Honestly it feels more like a band-aid just to force us to use GP. I think Patience I/II should just become traits. Otherwise fishing is either done with Hi-Cordials or AFK regen GP.

Of course, all this changes if the whole design concept was to completely draw out the gameplay for Fishing. Then yeah, I guess the design is perfect. It does that very well.

just make it so that you can choose which fish you go for, and actually see the percentage chance of getting it. then just spend all your time on not getting anything.

Making bait an ability rather than a consumable might help.

That or making bait 'tiered.' So if you have level 80 bait of type A, it still can target type A fish of level 1, which would allow you to clear out old bait and save a ton of space. This would hurt the secondhand bait market a bit (Though if bait was level locked it wouldn't matter too much) but would also open up higher end bait as a market, especially if there was bait that gave stat buffs while in use in addition to allowing you to catch fish of a given 'pool.'
