Request: Please update the character creator!

Pretty sure FF14 has fallen behind in character customization compared to other MMOs.

Fallen behind is a massive understatement.

Even when compared to other non-MMOs like Monster Hunter World, for example.

Whatever is done, I just hope that SE continues to keep body proportions in check so that weird body shapes cannot be created. No limitation on proportions would just ruin any character creator for me, regardless of whatever features it may have.

Also, keep having (and even add more) decent default sets/presets so that I can ignore options that I don't want to worry about.

And yes, combat voice preview would be nice.

Other than that, I'm satisfied with the current creator but would also welcome (good) updates to it.

I agree they need to update it.

My two main complaints are:

1. Facial hair is tied to the type of face
2. Having to constantly click between Facial Features and Face to see what my options are for each face type

I would like if they moved all existing facial hair options to a new Facial Hair option category and unlocked them for all races.

It would also be nice if all the numbered options like Jaw, Eye Shape, Eyebrows, Nose, and Mouth used actual pictures.

I agree the character creation needs a overhaul. After being here for so long I really do get bored and its around 10 years and not much has changed.

I think the 2b bottoms are great for giving my character some shape back, but also maybe they could add more of the same but maybe with a bit more coverage lol.

I agree all horns should be able to chosen for Aura and Cats need to have fangs if they want too.

All the character faces need cleaning up and having eyelashes and brows like the Viera.

We need facial hair options and more makeup options as they are really lacking

They have done well with this game and they should now be thinking of adding better customisation.

I think they just added better eyelashes to the Viera because the the other characters are so outdated, like eyebrows eyeliner options.

I don't think it would make any difference to the race by giving us normal things like those

I'll say one thing.. having played Black Desert, Blade & Soul, ESO, GW2, TERA, STO and SWTOR in the last ten years.. the character creation in FFXIV has by far been the most limiting and disappointing. The saddest part is that age isn't even really the thing to blame for it being such. TERA and STO are from 2011 and 2010 respectively and both are so much better at character creation than FFXIV (be it 1.0 or 2.0). So yes, FFXIV's character creation really, really needs a massive overhaul.

A few things I can add to the OP:

- More face options across the board. Most of the races only have FOUR... And with the smaller options (mouth, nose,etc) making little to no impact, you end up with the same face as most of the people out there;

- Fix the consistency in Facial Features: For example... makes no sense that Miqo male side-eye tattoo is optional on the Face 01, but permanent on Face 04;

- Face and lip color there's either Light or Dark options, but the former is too faded and the latter is too muddy. Add a third "Vibrant" option with the colors actually standing out;

- The hair color wheel is "deceptively" big. In the end there are not a lot of hue variations (rows) so the color spectrum is a bit limited. For example, there's no way to have a vibrant ginger hairstyle, because such hue is not there;

- Add a special "blind" eye option;


And above all, upscale the resolution of the bloody textures! I honestly can't believe they plan to release the PS5 client with those. Funny enough, none of the footage shown a while ago had close ups of anything. I can even imagine the visual impact that will be to see Hien's blurry outfit, or some haristyle in a close up.

I think FFXIV characters look really good, however the customization is very limited, so there's not that much variety between them. We have a lot of glamour options and hairstyles (minus for viera and hrothgar) and that helps make everyone a bit more unique.


I really hope in a future expansion they overhaul the character creation, because it can be a lot better! More face options, like eyebrows and beards, better make up and maybe a color wheel instead of the limited color picker.


And the priority in my eyes is giving viera and hrothgar more hairstyles (and letting hrothgar change their hair in the aesthetician).

It's not something unique like a Viera's ears or the detailing of their noses- the addition of the extra eyelashes seems more of a new race feature that should be added to other existing races
Keeping things limited only leaves more to be desired, which isn't ever good
