It hurts a little going from a really good character creator that ESO or BDO have to the limited one FFXIV has lolI'll say one thing.. having played Black Desert, Blade & Soul, ESO, GW2, TERA, STO and SWTOR in the last ten years.. the character creation in FFXIV has by far been the most limiting and disappointing. The saddest part is that age isn't even really the thing to blame for it being such. TERA and STO are from 2011 and 2010 respectively and both are so much better at character creation than FFXIV (be it 1.0 or 2.0). So yes, FFXIV's character creation really, really needs a massive overhaul.
Thank you for your input ^^
I agree. I was very disappointed when they added the new races in 5.0 which was very confusing as to why they didnt update the character creator with new faces, facial hair, etc. The new races are also very limited. Hopefully 6.0 introduces something new to the character creator.
Agreed--more options would be fantastic. Particularly facial features, face paints/makeup, and (although this is far more difficult as it would effect the way clothing/gear appears) body shapes. I don't have too much to add, just chiming in to make the thread bigger and hopefully attract more attention from devs![]()
I think the only thing I personally really feel underwhelmed about other than non Miqo'te facial features is how lean they make Hrothgar's muscle definition with no way to adjust.
We get all these beasts in the game with exaggerated definitions, enemies or just beast races, and even original Ronso are like that, and when they make the playable beast race they barely have visible abs. "They have fur" isn't really an excuse when Ronso are a counter argument yet again, not counting other creatures. And speaking of muscle definition, it's kind of dumb a lot of playable races don't get the slider any way.
Time. They had to have something ready for the masses by the expansion release date.I agree. Now, they are behind schedule because of Covid 19. As much as we all would love to see the character creator updated by 6.0, it's not going to happen.

That's an interesting view, I always thought hrothgars have the most defined abs of all races, because they are drawn on while other races depend on being on the max slider and catching the light on a certain way to make a shadow. I wish muscles on other races looked similar personally.
I would have liked if they stood upright, rather than hunched over- but I agree with youI think the only thing I personally really feel underwhelmed about other than non Miqo'te facial features is how lean they make Hrothgar's muscle definition with no way to adjust.

You know right that there is only one face type in ESO and all races share that apart from few.
That's like having sliders for just this one face my aura has, very limited. You can make some work of it but in the end the shape cannot be changed much.
I agree but I also know SE won't do any of this. we have been asking for more options for years to no avail.
In ESO, if you only play a Caucasian Breton without editing at all the face, I can see how all of the faces are the same- it applies when the playerbase goes with default lol
there are sliders- you can adjust body type to a degree- there's also make-up that has depth & more than just 1 wearable option that FFXIV has (you can only choose 1 option at a time, what the heck???) there is also body paint; There are jewelry options & Yes, Face sliders - so, it's not super revolutionary; it is however a step up from FFXIV character creator
There's no reason to defend FFXIV character creation since this thread is meant to shed light on it's issues
