Dungeon Loot?

Long time WOW player a week into ffxiv and find myself getting left behind in dungeons while I look and react to each bosses loot... BUT I think loot accumulates. As in you never go for each boss but at the end, after it’s over you are presented with all possible choices so you can take your time... do I guess this correctly?

And doesn’t that mean no loot gets distributed until anyone choosing at the end makes their choices?

I ask this because I have seen loot at the end that tells me I already have rolled on it! What I am familiar with is Blizzards personal loot...

When a piece of gear, or other "important" item like a rare crafting material, minion, etc drop it goes into the loot pool and everyone rolls on it. The item sits in the pool for 5 minutes or until everyone rolls before being given to the roll winner. The timer is only 5 minutes so you can't let items sit indefinitely before rolling but the game gives plenty of time to think about it first. What you're probably seeing is people who know from the start that they don't need any drops from that dungeon so they don't even bother rolling at all.

You don't need to stay at the treasure chest to look at the loot pool. There's a button that appears on the lower-right side of the screen.

Just follow the party and look at it when you get a moment between fights.

You don't have to look at the loot until the dungeon is finished. If the Need button is available you can press that, if not, press Greed. Rolling Need on loot that isn't an item level upgrade is not looked down upon like it is in WoW. The gear can be saved for alt jobs or fashion purposes, desynthesized (disenchanted) or sold to an NPC in exchange for Grand Company seals.

Yes you do. The loot from the first boss is unlikely to still be there at the end, unless you're going particularly fast.

Look, as in stop and compare it to your current gear. Like I said, just roll Need or Greed and carry on.

That IS what I try and do, but sometimes it leaves the item there until I hit pass.

Probably because someone else is either waiting or neglecting to roll. All you gotta do is roll Need if available, or Greed otherwise, and carry on. If it continues to sit, it'll still finish the roll once the timer expires.
