Anyone play the game that uses a GeForce GTX 550 Ti GPU?

Just curious if anyone has this card that plays FFXIV? Looking into replacing my 9800 GT with something that is a few steps up and at an affordable price. This fits my bill, just curious how it handles the game.

P.S. Please don't reply about that card unless you know first hand, though if you want to link me to a card on a site that is between $100-$125 feel free to do so. (after rebate)

I have a 560ti and it handles the game very well, I can't remember the exact difference in specs off the top of my head but if you want I can list the settings I run at.

Haha at first I had to do a double take to make sure this wasn't me who started the topic...I actually just did what you are looking to do. There is not a noticeable enough difference to warrant buying it, without posting your other pc specs. I saw a frame increase of maybe 4 to 5 fps.

This card may be good if the rest of your computer is up to par, but in my case I will need to update the rest of my pc to see much of any difference.

Edit: For example in Ul'dah I would see possibly 5-7fps. Now I see maybe 7-10fps. Loaded areas are still bogged down. Out in the frontier I can see anywhere from 11-19fps depending on the players around and all that good stuff.

I've heard better things about the #60 versions of the cards. Apparently the first 5 means 5th generation and the 5 and 0 or even 50 have their own meaning of power. I'd suggest looking online for a 460 or 560 and see if you can find one at your price range.

Ul'dah 7-10. Dungeons...7-15 depending on the mob load, etc. Never see 20+ unless it's perfectly calm around.

I use GeForce GTX 550 Ti AMP! Edition. (I believe the brand is Zotac.)

Pretty much, the starting number indicates the GPU family, cards that are X## all use GPUs that share manufacturing, core design, fabrication process or similar. The following number indicates the intended audience broken down something like this:

#10 - #30 Media playback cards for HTPCs and the like, can run some games but unlikely to run them well.

#40 - Entry level gaming card, runs most games at low specs

#50 - Mid range card, will run most games at moderate settings

#60 - 'Gamer' card, will run most games at moderate to high settings

#70 - 'Performance' grade card, will run most games at high settings

#80 - 'Enthusiast' grade card, will run even the most demanding games at high settings

#90 - SLI cards, a card running two GPUs in order to allow 4GPU SLI without/reducing PCI lane bottlenecking.

You can do some research to get the specifics but that's *roughly* how Nvidia breaks down their product line, ATI/AMD do something similar but with different numbers. Personally I'd never go below a #60 card if you can afford it, also worth baring in mind that generally speaking two #60 cards in SLI perform about the same as a #80 card, with #60 cards being half the price it is increasingly common to see people buy one #60 now and then a second later when the price comes down. I currently have a 560ti and plan to buy a second in a few months when the 660 is out and the prices have dropped a little further.

But it's also worth baring in mind, as Yuppiekin said, it is worth seeing if the rest of your computer is up to par, if you run a 5## series card in a AM2 or socket 775 system you won't get the most out of it.
