Honestly I don't really care, but when you add sound effects to that mix and make them excessive you're forcing me to do something whether it be reporting you or telling you to stop doing it. And if you were there when it happened you wouldn't have been nice telling them to stop. That's all I'm saying.
Did I say it was you that i was referring to? Because I wasn't. I'm specifically referring to emotes (like dote), so I'm pretty sure were talking about different things. Yeah if people spam macros for no reason with sounds, then go for it and report. I've just had a couple of friends get reported for using embrace/dote 2 or 3 times with their significant other in cities (particularly Limsa) and was saying that it is stupid to report people for that.

By the logical flow of the conversation, yes you were referring to him.

Ardeth explained his situation, asking if the event was reportable.

Theodric replied to the thread answering the question of whether it was reportable, then went on to give his opinion about the situation.

You quoted Theodric and said "this", indicating you support his opinion on Ardeth's situation, but talking as if the situation being discussed was "getting reported for using an emote two or three times" as if that was what Ardeth had described, when actually you're using it as a springboard to talk about a different level of event that isn't "this" at all.

For my own opinion, no you certainly shouldn't get reported for using an emote a few times in a public space. But for the incident Ardeth is describing, with someone being deliberately disruptive in a dungeon? That's what reports are supposed to be for, and if someone keeps doing it to annoy people then they should be aware that they're putting their own account at risk by doing so. That's exactly what the harsh punishment is supposed to deter people from - not that I think it should be quite so harsh for the width of application it gets, given the various horror stories about it, but this is where it would be doing what it's designed to do.

In this particular case, since they apparently stopped when asked, I wouldn't report them. But if people told them to stop and they deliberately kept going, then yes I'd be looking at filing a report.

I've been in a situation before where a party member just kept playing a pointless macro that pinged the party chat non-stop with sound effects, and they wouldn't stop, and it was awful. I couldn't kick them due to loot rolls, and I was the tank so I didn't want to abandon the duty and leave the others waiting.
