    Why is glamour the end-game?

I've begun to notice a trend of people saying phrases like "Glamour is the true end-game". People are even doing extreme content like Ultimates for glamour. It also looks like most of the items on the Mog Station are for fashion rather than having any real use.

Do people actually play this way? By that I mean: are there really people who do content in this game for the sole purpose of using the rewards of the content for glamour? Or is this some inside joke that I'm not getting? I really can't imagine someone doing so much grinding just for glamour. I always thought it's more of a bragging rights. I was interested in getting a relic but I gave up after the second quest since it was taking way too long, so I have to imagine glamours are more about bragging than collecting good looking armor. Let me know if I'm wrong and if there are people out there doing glamour for the sake of glamour and not bragging!

I know the drill, but heck I'll bite.

Glamours/mounts/minions (all vanity items) are basically the only things with any real lasting appeal/staying power. Even after your gear has been outdated, the appearances remain. So yeah, it would make sense for glamour to be the true endgame. People don't say that for no reason.

So are older glamours a sign of legacy? To show new players that you've been playing the game for a long time and have all these old glamours?

To some. Most just keep the sets they like because they...you know, like them.

That's interesting. I would have thought the opposite since there are a few people showing off their glamour in the signature for what I presume is for bragging rights, but I guess they don't represent the majority.

That is a pretty common activity seen in most mmorpgs, it makes more sense in FF14 though because the glamours are so much more detailed and interesting so I absolutely plan on doing many longer grinds and high end content just to get the appearances I want.
When I was playing WoW I would usually find one armor I liked and glamour it at all times but with all the options I am seeing in this game and all the different jobs I am gonna have to get a lot more glamour options, so it absolutely make sense people want to complete many different fabulous looking sets to use at different occasions, which is also far more mentally healthier than "bragging rights" which can be seen in WoW with people doing things they dont really enjoy to get something they dont really care about but because it has prestige in it and believe others will be impressed and they will be seen as "elite".(No we wont be impressed, its a video game, that kind of behavior implies more negative things about the person)

Which of course has also made the WoW community degenerate into "Your opinion doesnt matter unless you ve done X elite thing", thankfully FF14 community is nowhere near that.

My experience (which I admit is limited) has been the opposite though. I've seen a lot of people afk in the cities with a glowing weapon which I think is from the Ultimate raids. I think for at least those people it's all about bragging (and there's one on the forums here too...) I've not encountered that many other glamours outside of those glowing weapons so I guess I haven't seen people glamouring for the sake of looking good.

And yet, most people even with those weapons continue to go about their business. They've got nothing to prove by AFKing in a random zone.

I mean is it surprising that people like the shiny version of weapons? They look really cool and many of them are from upgraded relics which many have after playing this game for years so it makes sense they would have them and stick to the ones they like.

I really dont think cuz someone happens to afk in a city they do this so others can look on their shiny weapons, I afk in cities and near summoning bell often while doing irl stuff because I dont want to bother closing and reopening the client, and I do plan on getting those glowy weapons myself though there's so many good options and good jobs I dont know where to start xD

Another thing I love about this game is that is doesnt rush you, I dont feel i am missing out or losing something if I am not actively doing something so I often feel very comfortable afking, something that I cannot say about WoW where if you stop to afk for a while you wasted time you could be doing something to get gear/score/grindy currency from a huge list of grindy activities before the week ends

Glamour can be found as a reward for many different variety of content. If you truly make it your endgame, you basically can make use of more of the game that you pay subscription fee to gain access to.
