Why aren't Idyllshire in the Eorzean Alliance

I'm sure those goblins have some useful inputs during meetings.

On one hand, now that you mention it, I think it would be pretty cute to see Idyllshire represented on the battlefield; I bet the gobbies over there have had a field day plucking the leavings of the collapsing Illuminati.

On the other, though, we have two things that run counter to the idea of Idyllshire having organized armed forces with a central government capable of committing an entire nation to a military alliance. The first is that the focus was so hard on "free nation for free people" that the watchguard couldn't figure out how to do their job because they didn't think to make RULES for where the boundaries are and how to enforce them. The second is that leadership is... Well,

    Slowfix
Pshkohhh... Why must governing great gobbie nation be so difficult!? Like herding coeurls.
Stupid coeurls with muchly differing views on glorious nation's future direction!
I think we have a better chance of seeing the free Idyllshire's free people joining the adventurer squadrons of the existing free companies than seeing the battle standard of the glorious free nation of Idyllshire, lol.

Idyllshire's sovereignty isn't recognized by the Alliance. Baboom.

In fairness it is a smaller town without secure borders or settlements outside of Idyllshire itself; while its inventiveness would (or rather could) certainly prove useful, it lacks anything in the way of true military might thus far.

Yeah, I think we could end up working with individual goblins to achieve stuff, but they're not very organised as a nation.

It could still be nice to formally reach out to them, but I don't know how much one could speak for the others. Or at least they might not feel like they should.

It would probably make sense to keep them in the loop, at least, even if they're not going to be part of the military alliance.

Cuz Idyllshire is a not totally abandoned colony founded by a group intent on remaining neutral (the sharlayans).

And cuz goblins are basically a beast tribe.
Though after hearing Merwyb's speech from that recent MSQ maybe that'll mean less in the future.

The Sharlayans have absolutely no hands in the people that now occupy Idllyshire. The current inhabitants of Idllyshire are their own, distinct nation.

The overall population of Idyllshire is very small, compared to any of the city states. There's no real residential sector, and they're very far away from other other civilization. Every quest that involves you going from anywhere to Idyllshire always makes sure to point out how far away it is, how it's out in the middle of nowhere, and how dangerous traversing that much land can be.

I say all of that to say, the people of Idyllshire have no means of large scale traveling, even if they did have a decent sized population complete with a military force. Gotta think about logistics, and beyond people who can teleport, and the Goblin foundry being commissioned or making their mission or whatever to make that Goblin tank in the... mining quests? They don't really have a lot going on that we see. Heck, in the Botanist quests, their lead botanist is also pretty much their only botanist.

I mean, it would be grade A comedy to have Slofix trade much tongueflaps with goodly Uplander societies, but it would be hard to believe if not properly explained.

What surprises me about Idyllshire is that no one there has had the insight to set up a port as they sit right on the sea.

It would be much easier for them to establish relations and business deals throughout Eorzea if they would move through the established connections of Limsa's navy.

I guess the sticking point is if Sharlayan would ever like to reclaim their colony would put the residents in a difficult spot politically.

For me, I think Idyllshire is more of an outpost or settlement or maybe even a camp versus a nation.
Maybe the Alliance could include them but I think they'd probably work under Ishgard's banner, like the Vanu seem to be.

    Ah, yes.
    I wasn't clear.
The colony was founded by people intent on remaining neutral. They've since abandoned the colony to retreat to Sharlayan. The colony is still inhabited however, and despite the Sharlayans absence their philosophy is very deeply ingrained in Idyllshire.

I was not trying to suggest there were still a few Sharlayans around in an unofficial capacity.
