The thing that comes to mind is the dash/dodge you see in Automata. You can very much adjust the direction on the fly and it feels very smooth because of it. That said, yeah, I think it comes down to whatever issues exist deeper in the code. XIV as a whole feels rather stiff. En avant ain't the only one. Practically every skill that involves closing a distance gap is incredibly snappy in its animation, which is practical, since of course, the intent is to get from point A to B as fast as possible... It just doesn't quite do the "gracefulness" of dancer justice.
