You can avoid the free company experience bonus by visiting another world or joining a different free company that doesn't use it. I recommend not doing any roulettes if you don't want to overlevel as well.

You should avoid leveling alternative classes above your main class' level, otherwise it gives an experience bonus.

You said you are forced to play on this world because of a friend, but you could make your character on a non-Preferred world from the same data center, then visit their world.
Yeah, that is something I was thinking about, and then like I think I mentioned transferring back onto my friends server once I am where I want to be.

    Appreciate the advice though.

It would be nice if they could add something like the Stone of the Tortoise from LoTRO to the game, except as an earring or some other equippable. It's not something I'd ever care to use, but for people who don't want to wildly outpace content even on non-preferred worlds it could be something nifty.

That said it's use in LoTRO is more versatile because there the game places far more importance on the stories of each individual area - and it's way too easy to massively outpace each area's level range when trying to do everything in it. So it might not have much use here.

The easiest way to slow down your EXP gain is to pick up a second class and use it while you're running quests.

You're level 50 so (assuming you have the expansions) you can go unlock RDM or SAM now and start putting EXP into them.

If you hit level 60 of the MSQ and you've still got an issue with too much EXP on your main class, grab GNB or DNC and spread it further.

Considering the game level syncs you down for anything with even the slightest tiny whiff of difficulty about it - even the majority of solo quests that aren't simply "go from point A to click something at point B" - I'm not sure this is actually needed.

Probably the easiest way to implement if they wanted to anyway? A checkbox somewhere that says "Always Level Sync to MSQ quest level?" That would sync you to that if not otherwised synced down.

If your issue is level-syncing, then your issue isn't that you're too overleveled - you just dislike level syncing. EVERYONE regardless of their level or place in the story experiences level sync unless doing at-level content. If you don't want to experience level-syncing, I'd recommend finding a group of friends to help you unsync content - you'd have access to your entire toolkit that way, and the only places you'd sync down to would be FATEs or Solo Duties.

EDIT: I'd also like to add, if you weren't level-syncing and you were doing all content AT LEVEL, you'd still only have access to the limited toolkit of that level, without even the chance to touch and practice with the skills you have access to now.

FFXIV isn't a game about leveling your level, it's about leveling your gear. You may think leveling take's too much time now, just wait until you're 80. Skill bloat/spam is just one of the arguable flaws in this game.

I'm glad that I started playing years ago. Leveling was an experience. It made me feel invested. I remember feeling so happy I was finally lvl 50 PLD and got to wear my attifact armour xD Now people hit 60>80 before they're even in Heavenswars and know **** all about the job they're playing.

I must admit I've also found a few issues with the enormous Xp I'm getting from preferred world status. Namely gear. As a returning player on a new account I bought the ARR story skip as I just didn't want to do it again. I was happy to start on PLD and level through dungeons until I get to heavensward which I'm looking forward to doing again.
The problem is I'm leveling so fast I cant keep up with gear. Level synced roulette players rarely want to do full clears and after one dungeon run I'm already high enough to do the next, but haven't got the gear for it, especially as the tank.

My solution was to make the most of the xp buff and level my crafting and gathering jobs so I can just make my own gear. Its working well to be fair but leveling too fast wasn't a problem I was expecting to be honest.

msq would've given you gear, you should also be doing your class quests, you should already be a paladin at level 53. you should've been a paladin at level 30.
