General Discussion isn't the place for it. Posting it in their respective world forums is the place. We don't need General Discussion flooded by RP's making countless threads for their revenues.

I actually disagree; keeping it confined to a specific world's forum means that only that world knows what's going on, if anyone actually visits that forum.
This is like saying Square Enix shouldn't advertise FFXIV anywhere other than MMO websites.
I may not go, but it's always nice to know that things are happening in a game where, frankly, nothing is happening otherwise.

Yeah, we need the front page space for more threads about Viera hair and how casuals are ruining the game.

Well the RP have to go somewhere that hits all of their target and general meets that. So unless SE expands the forums with the data center visit this is the exactly the place they should be posting. Also the content sellers should be "flooding" the general discussion for the same reason. Since neither is against ToS its up to SE to handle this.

This is one of the strangest hills to die on. I agree they should have a space to advertise, but General Discussion is not the space for that - it's a space for discussion of topics, and advertisements allow only as much discussion as "cool". Until SE expands the forums to account for Data Center visits, or even until Data Center visits are, well, a thing, these should remain exactly where other advertisements like this go - to individual world forums, or off of the official forums and into spaces like reddit and dedicated FFXIV fan forums.Well the RP have to go somewhere that hits all of their target and general meets that. Personally, I don't see the problem with RP groups and venues advertising in the General Discussion forums, its pretty much the catch-all forums at this point, even having threads that should be in other forums. I've even seen people start threads about third-party add-ons and programs like parsers, shaders, and discord/voice chat and no ones batted an eyelash at those, so things outside the parameters of the game don't seem to be a taboo subject either. This is one of the strangest hills to die on. It'll also break up the constant stream of repeating thread-themes. :B
(Granted, I don't have a problem with them posting in the PF either, so...)

The problem is volume. Any one individual ad is fine, but it would only take a fairly small number of these ads to fill up the front page of the forum, especially if people keep bumping them so they stay visible.

It seems to me that this one sparked a fair amount of discussion as anything else.![]()
