    Hi everyone,

Since last year I had a Win10 update which was installed and my FFXIV game client stopped using my audio device. I am tech savvy; this has nothing to do with viruses or malware or otherwise. This was a legitimate Win10 update, only thing is I have lost track of exactly which update it was since it has been a long time. Either way it doesn't matter because I have tried everything, even rolling back the updates, to try and fix this - nothing works.

My FFXIV client has stopped using the correct audio device and there is no way for me to select the audio device I want from any kind of menu. For me this is a problem. The only way I can hear any game client audio is if I install VoiceMeeter program and set it to override the game to a virtual output. I don't like doing this because I hate virtual devices and they really clash with the rest of my set up, e.g. they break my volume macros and hotkeys, the sound quality changes, and I can't use surround sound, etc etc. The problems are endless if I have to use virtual output, but for FFXIV, I have to.

I've talked to others with the same problem and they said they've resorted to just using VoiceMeeter forever. I can't accept this; because I want to uninstall VoiceMeeter for good, I hate the software and I hate having it on my computer just to hear the FFXIV game client. I would like Square Enix to investigate this issue because it is tiresome. Please allow us to choose our audio devices for the game...

    Thanks for reading.

I downloaded the "Windows 10 Feature Upgrade 20HS" thats been on the update page in the settings menu since late last year. I think I downloaded it around November/December. It COMPLETELY wrecked my games and a lot of different weird things in Windows. If I remember correctly it did delete my audio. When you would click on the speaker icon in the tray it had everything (headphones, Monitor speakers to choose from) but no PC audio (Realtech Audio I think it was called.) I had to roll back Windows to a previous version to get it off and everything went back to normal. If you downloaded that feature thing that may be your issue.

My sound devices are all working properly as I can hear sounds of everything else; Windows 10, league of legends, other games, youtube, etc, I can hear everything except FFXIV. I have tried updating audio drivers, unplugging/replugging cables, different headphones, etc, nothing works. The only thing that worked was using VoiceMeeter software to force the game to send audio to a virtual audio device which was then sent to my headphones. I do not want to keep using VoiceMeeter, I want to play FFXIV and be able to use my normal sound. I also sent a ticket to SquareEnix and was told to reinstall the game (which did not work). I am using Windows 10 Home with all updates.

I believe that if I could select my audio output from the game options, I would be able to hear sound. But because I am not allowed to select my audio device, the game is forever sending audio to nowhere. I can see, virtually, that the game is not muted because the audio visualizers are moving up and down in the volume control. I just can't hear it from my headphones (and yes my headphones are the default device).

And again..........this appears to be something that relates to the random crashes, i don't know why.

I'm gonna link an oddity that happened, a DX11.dll fault got spewed up when this happened. and for some reason i was able to control my character. but everything else was broken. no menu's no anything. the Hotbars occasionally mess up too. And this sound bug has became a thing lately. Only with this game.

I'm going to link a recurring fault for devs, because this needs to be looked into

    https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...ing_like_this/

and the odd stuff that happened to me, like i said, no other game is doing this in any small way. fresh OS, fresh install. So it's absolutely not just us lot. Something's went wrong.

Guess the sound did mess-up on that one.

What i find most peculiar, is that you're pc slightly better.

I'm running a Ryzen 3 2200G and a 1050 ti. I'm getting this same problem occasionally. It happens in DX9 mode and DX11. So something's most definitely busted. Could it be NVidia drivers?

    That ain't normal....

If all your devices are present and working which one is set to default?

I had a Windows 10 update do something similar to me and had to go into the control panel to fix it. Not the windows 10 settings app but the actual control panel. Where you can list your audio devices. Right click on them and choose which to default for what..

It seems that changing these options in the windows 10 settings app doesn't always work as it conflicts with the control panel settings.
