I'm with you on it being a thematic downgrade- I don't plan on sticking to the class once I get it leveled mostly due to the wonky Ninja run & not being able to toggle between the rogue animation
i feel you op, in my case is machinist heated attack animation, i really really REALLY hate machinist heated shot combo animation, i much prefer the low level shot animation (before upgrade to heated)
in my mind machinist is this precise and utility gadget person, and the low level shot animation portray their class better than a person with tools and trade doing a fricking backflip!!!! what in the blaze name the dev is thinking....
Me too (or a straight up assassin, fine aswell) but I think they stated somewhere that they intentionally moved away from anything that could be associated with thiefs, thugs etc. so it doesn't look like they're promoting or endorsing criminal behaviour even in fiction.
With how strictly they censor violence and making as much happen off screen as possible and keeping it generally PG it's not surprising. Still a shame, I like a bit of an outlaw image tied to a class. Doesn't have to be really edgy, dark and criminal, just a bit would be enough for me.
NIN is all about control, principles, code of honor, loyalty, duty and so on which is fine on its own ... just not what many people were hoping for when they picked up rogue.
I'd play NIN if I could toggle the run animation to how the Rogue Runs when their weapon is drawn. I don't associate the Rogue run with being a criminal at all- I don't think anyone else does either- I just strongly dislike that players aren't allowed to toggle between run animations on NIN & in my opinion, is an oversight by SEMe too (or a straight up assassin, fine aswell) but I think they stated somewhere that they intentionally moved away from anything that could be associated with thiefs, thugs etc. so it doesn't look like they're promoting or endorsing criminal behaviour even in fiction.

to deter from anything 'criminal' related, yet we slay people & living things all of the time- that sounds like murder imo which isn't PG. So, now SE is picking & choosing if we think about it
We can't have an "outlaw" image but we can run around with our buttcheeks out in underwear
Maybe I'm overthinking it & over criticizing ( my apologies if it seems that way! :c )
Having options never hurt though & it seems to be the want out of everyone who's responded mostly- let's hope a higher-up takes notice ^^
Also, I appreciate your input
Even 'rogue' tends to avoid actual criminal activity. The Rogues, while a bit secretive, are actually part of how Limsa operates, part of the system in a way, rather than being something like a thieves guild etc.
It's a real shame. I love the whole 'class fantasy' that a rogue brings to the table. It's disappointing to me that it's only relevant for thirty levels.
I feel like they are never going to give you this option and it's pointless to ask for it. this isn't like asking for more space or something simple. This is asking them to change animations. Literally the backbone of the job.
The run animation is already there, it just isn't available once you become a NIN- Since that is what we're talking about, we're not asking to replace a run animation if you read the OP. Just make the Rogue once available as well.
SE isn't some small indie company, I'm sure they could figure out something- but small indie companies have seemingly done more with less compared to big gaming companies these days-
regardless of how you see it - I don't believe anything is pointless to ask without trying 1st
