[Suggestion] Don't have glamour saved to individual armors.

Having my glamour tied to individual gear pieces has caused me lots of frustration when it comes to classes that share armor sets. For example, my WHM glam set includes a Swanliege Coat which can only be equipped by WHM. As a result, when I switch to SCH, I end up having just a set of exarchic gear with no glams. Not only that, but it's irritating to have to swap glams each time I switch classes that I have using different glam sets because they share base armors. My BLM uses the Bozjan coat while my RDM uses a Far Eastern Maiden Tunic. Although my RDM isn't 80 yet, I would end up having to swap plates each time I switch classes if it were lv80 in order to look how I want.

Basically, I'm thinking that having a specific set of slots that you equip glamour armor while being job specific would be far easier to deal with. That way, not only would players not have to deal with reapplying glamour each time they change a piece of equipment, but it would stop glamour sets that armor sharing classes use from interfering with each other. I know you can't apply glams of a higher IL than the actual armor you're wearing but honestly I don't really see how that does anything. Wouldn't it be better to just base that restriction on your job's level instead of your armor's IL?

Anyways, I suggest saving the active glam sets to gear sets so that people who have different glam sets for the same class depending on what they're doing atm wouldn't have to change their set manually each time they do something else or waste more glamour plate slots on it.

Any thoughts? I might have gotten a few details wrong and my idea may have some flaws but honestly something like this would likely end up as a big improvement to the current glam equip system.

You can already link a glamour plate to a gearset so that when you change your gear the glamour is automatically applied.
The drawback is that there are many areas where you can't apply glamour plates, so sometimes you will change your job from WHM to SCH, any gear shared between the two sets will still have the WHM glam on them (and for WHM only pieces, instead of displaying the Swanliege coat the piece will appear unglamoured)

I didn't know you could do that, so thanks for telling me! Too bad it only really fixes the tedium of applying plates where you already can. Though, to be honest I guess this means that my idea brings up the same issue of why we can't apply plates anywhere we want. Not really sure why the restriction is in place when we can change glams individually wherever we want though. I remember reading about why there aren't more places to edit plates, but nothing about why we can't apply them in more places.

I think it's to do with system resources and what has to be loaded so the plates will work.

As for the overall suggestion, there are benefits to having glamour pinned to the individual pieces if you want to switch things around, and it would be a big restructuring of how the data is stored to change it, and they tend to avoid doing that. They didn't alter anything when they added the dresser - just built a system that sits over the old one.

    iirc the reason is twofold

1.) The way glamour plates work is super unwieldy and they dont wanna give the game migraines juggling changes from plates in a busy area where people aren't doing simple things like shopping in Limsa or listening to someone /perform.

2.) Devs found out that if you're attacked while asking the game to read data from a glamour plate that leads to really weird issues were the game reads or writes the wrong data.
Other problems crop up if someone uses a macro that would change their glam during an attack and can change even sometimes rewrite what function your commands perform.

So they circumvented the problem by stopping players from interacting with glamour plates in combat possible areas, and this is also why they only let you edit plates in small instanced personal rooms like at the inn or in your grand company's squadron room.

This whole system really needs a rework! Just like the inventory please Square Enix look at this

It's very complicated for a new or returning player like me to even understand that quickly... I had to spend research which I don't mind but for a game I'm passionate about it's just sometimes a bit annoying.

A WoW type collection system automatically saving all the stuff would be way better so technically you would just end up creating your set instead of adding each item into the dresser, adding it in the set and then wondering where the item is, or why you can't equip it etc... I experienced countless issues with this and the fact that I have to go to my room each time doesn't help. I mean fair, in WoW you have to go to a NPC but a feature within the UI would be really useful.

On another note, I think the UI got pretty full now when you play with controller! I think some UI entries can be combined, replaced etc... It's just a bit of a mess I feel. The game is gorgeous but it really lacks organisation sometimes I feel, simplicity.

If you can't apply a glamour, there are two simple reasons:

    1. Your gear level is lower than the glamour. You can't make a level 50 piece look like a level 60 piece.

    2. Your current job can't equip the glamour. This may mean you can't apply the glamour at all (can't make your healer top look like tank gear) or the glamour will be applied but only show for that specific job (eg. can make your healer top look like AST robe but it won't show on WHM).

You can filter gear in the dresser by a particular job if you want to make sure it's equippable.
