    Art Contest: Are collaborations allowed?

    Regarding this event: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...6ea69c6ad40e4f

    I don't see anything in the rules prohibiting or allowing collaborations, does anyone know if they're allowed?

    In my case, I have a (paid) commissioned piece of lineart of my character from a friend. My talent is painting, so I'd finish the piece. I would of course ask my friend's permission to use her work in the contest.

    If it's allowed, how would I credit her? On the image itself?

    NA/SA/Carribean: Inappropriate Entries. (b) violate or infringe any laws, regulations, or rights, including any intellectual property, publicity, or privacy rights; (d) contain any personally identifiable information, personal data, or personal information about any individual other than the Entrant, including another person’s address, phone number, email address, credit card number, or any information that may be used to track, contact, or impersonate that individual; (h) make unauthorized or fraudulent use of a third party’s name, identity, information, or likeness;

    Europe/Asia/Africa/Oceania: Your Promises in Connection with Your Entry: (a) except for any materials which you have included in your entry which are owned or licensed by the Sponsor, you own and control all rights in your entry. This means that your entry is your own original work and does not infringe any third party intellectual property rights (e.g., copyrights, trade marks, or design rights);

    (b) you have obtained written consent from anyone featured, identified, or mentioned in your entry;

    NA (b) and EU (a) are important to note because you don't automatically own all the rights to any commissioned artwork unless it is specifically negotiated for with a signed contract from both parties (as I understand it at least; I'm not a lawyer). Please review any contract you may have made with your friend for what rights were bestowed to you. NA (d) and (h) and EU (b) are probably worth noting because artists frequently put their handles on their artworks as, I believe, a way to show their ownership of the work.

    Thanks for the detailed reply!

    Written consent from her wouldn't be an issue (so (h) wouldn't apply), but she would want her Twitter handle associated with it for credit, which would go against (d)?

    It's still not 100% clear so I've opened a support ticket. I definitely want to cover all bases just in case. I imagine that it's pretty common for collaborations like this, so there may be a precedent. Drawing line art and painting said line art are very different skillsets!
