As an enthusiastic Feast player, this sounds like a good thing. More than anything, Feast suffers from a lack of players. You could point to any number of reasons as to why, but the game mode needs more bodies to keep it active, and it's been running on fumes for too long. A change that can bring more players into competitive PvP, even if it's more casual, is a welcome change to me. A higher level of activity and player count will give them more reason to keep the mode updated and offer more and better rewards to keep players engaged.
That's what I have been saying, saccing feast to make a mode that's a lot more active is 20x better than continuing with feast. Can't wait for them to reveal what the new mode will be!
"And for 6.2.5 we will be finally giving you the new pvp mode!" which will cost us that patches trial and Dungeon lol
But on a more serious note, id like more pvp modes and maybe, just maybe more maps for existing modes.
I would sacrifice feast for something that is fun and active and PvP based any day of the week. Frontlines are not enjoyable to me. Rival Wings is dead, the only activity for it coming from a community initiative because somehow SE's only ability to execute activity in that mode is those tomes that are exchangable for stuff I ALREADY HAVE. Same way the community has carried Feast to be honest, without Discord Light would not have survived Season 15. 16 and 17 on the other hand, were unsalvageable because of some level of imcompetance to think three consecutive seasons is a good idea because no-one there understands ranked PvP and I'm glad they've finally realised it, even though pre-season isn't exactly gigabrain.
I used to love staying up late playing WoW BGs (a game where pvp pops outside of a 3 hour window) because they were fun. It was never the reward, the same way I play Rival Wings during tome event religiously because I adore RW. It was fun. It didn't have to be balanced. Actually, seeing how the game's pvp is balanced strictly for 3v3 (whereas for whatever reason SE thinks balancing this game for both was going to work; hi Black Mages; also this is why you're so weak in Feast Machinists!); it comes as no surprise how broken large scale battle balance in WoW is. But no-one cares, we cry on bnet forums but really the majority of us still have fun. And that is what I'd like to see here, it doesn't have to work well, it just needs to be fun and active and it'll sell itself, and if it sells itself because it's that good, that side of the game will grow exponentially.
I will miss the community tournaments though (that the CMs don't really deal with or seem to take any kind of interest in helping with; albeit on a personal level, they love them and I know they do because Clem and Adalric are PvP minded CMs). With that said, nothing but love and appreciation for Yoshi P because based on the updates we have had to PvP and the fact he's still trying to make something work that such a minority of FF players are interested in - shows he cares to me; and is the reason I hold on to remaining subbed to this game.
I think this also depends on their JP player base. Frontlines is enjoyable (I assume) to JP players. But definitely PvP in FFXIV has to change. Feast is, well... arena style "bait out mitigating abilities and then burst them to death... pick up medals, rinse-and-repeat... then wait a long time for the next queue to pop"... yeah, not fun at all.
I definitely wonder what the devs have in mind for the next competitive pvp game mode. It seems they want to focus more on casual content for PvP, and I commend them for that... it sounds like a great idea. But what about competitive gaming for us Feast'ers?
I guess we'll wait and see. And also Tachion... hi! ^_^
Did..... Did I just see YoshiP talking about... .about PVP?
You guys... WE DO EXIST!!!!
Also if he really wants to do something from the ground up, he should really just read the feedback here or heck just look at other MMOs with good PVP that walks you through the process and is easy to pick up but challenging to master.
"We want bunny suits for guys!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Ishgard housing!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Viera!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Cloud's motorcycle!" -- OK! ✅
"We want Blue Mage!"-- OK! ✅
"We want the ability to earn past Feast rewards!" - HAHA no that's sacred.
I do not know how a new mode will fix the 7 Button issue? Sure, something new to look at but the fights in itself will still be boring if they dont make any changes to the core issue.

Hoping for something like a 8v8 style domination / capture the zones type of thing - that seems more casual than dealing with medals and having to know and execute bursts well. larger teams means less individual pressure too. Either way I hope that they bring back some old features of what made pvp pretty decent in the first place.
Make PVP like MOBA with different skins to unlock and only 3 or 4 unique skill and it will do well. Otherwise it’s FF14 just versus. We have like 50 different classes if you include the crafters. Give them each a unique skin and skills and bam you have a MOBA game.
Perhaps use the NPCs as selectable classes and skills.
