Yes. Clearly. One needs to get to level 80 and clear all Ultimates on a female Viera in order to unlock male Viera.

I'd rather not have them at all at that point. I don't want to waste my time doing tedious tasks to unlock a playable race. This idea has never made sense to me at all because it just sounds downright awful. We aren't getting any new races anyways, unless some kind of game development miracle happens and they find some efficient process to implement new playable races. So don't hold your breath, I wouldn't count on it at this point since we've been sitting with two halves of two races for two years. You can AT BEST hope for NPC races to just stare at somewhere in the world if they find a way to justify their appearance there. If we had our own allied race mechanic, think of the cool races that we could play. I love the idea of unlockable races, because it makes them cool, more difficult, and a player accomplishment to earn.
My ideas for such races in this game would be:
- Lupin
- Burmecians
- Baanga
- Ivalician Moogles
- Seeq
- Nu Mou
Also upon completion you would get a free one time fantasia for the first time completion of that races unlock quest, but it would ONLY work for that race change, and for one use. If you changed back after making the choice, you would still have to buy a fantasia, or make a separate character.
No I do think Female Hrothgar and Male Viera should be in an allied races content feature. Female Viera and Male Hrothgar are already pickable races. Let's not make it more difficult just to unlock an opposite gender. This group of races would be entirely separate and optional.

Yeah. Unlocking races was a bad idea in WoW and it'd be a bad idea here.I'd rather not have them at all at that point. I don't want to waste my time doing tedious tasks to unlock a playable race. The unlock requirements of some of the allied races didn't even make sense anyway. Dark Iron Dwarves actually joined the Alliance a few expansions BEFORE they became playable but they still had the same gameplay grinds. Void elves have you gaining reputation with an unrelated faction because there HAD to be a reputation grind but there was no appropriate void elf faction in the game already. Kul'tiras joins the alliance a full patch before they're made playable etc.
Plus, as I aluded to before, it kind of breaks down logic wise.
Character A, my human rogue, goes through the expansion's story and quests, and has recruited the void elves into the Alliance. Hooray. Now I make my void elf character...who is in the Alliance because of my other character...and then...level up doing the exact same quests and stories my other character went through? What?
That would be even more jarring in FFXIV where the story is clearly written around a singular WOL protagonist.
None of those are even "allied races", just entirely new ones. WoW allied races were literally just copy paste of the original races with a few different aesthetics [because at the end of the day they're still the same races, just different factions of them], with the sole exception being Vulpera, which are just reskinned Goblins.
The closest interpretation to an allied race in XIV would be a third clan for the already existing races, which would be - you guessed it - just recolors with tiny different details like idk, Au Ras with different colored scales, or highlanders with actual eyebrows (when they could just give those features to the already existing clans)

The Allied Race system in world of warcraft was terrible and all the races you think would work for FFXIV would be absolute nightmare for animations and clipping. If people are still upset that Viera and Hrothgar can't wear most headgear and have their hair style tied to face choice, imagine how people would react to Bangaa and Nu Mou customization options only being what color you can make their skin or pre-set clothes.
No thanks.this isnt WOW its final fantasy.
Seriously i know a lot of you came here from WOW but would appreciate if you'd stop requesting things from WOW be brought over to final fantasy.
I mean there is clearly a reason you moved here from WOW so why do people keep asking the devs to make the game like WOW ?

The problem with this idea, is it would mean they would be adding new races to the game. And YoshiP has told us that Viera and Hrothgar are possibly the Final Races being made in FFXIV due to a few reasons. As much as I would love to see playable Bangaa, Ivalice Moogles, and maybe even see the Lupin become playable, its more then likely not going to happen. If we had our own allied race mechanic, think of the cool races that we could play. Also...no thanks. I prefer to pay for my expansion, and they are there when Im ready for them. I dont think we should go through a Questchain to unlock the ability to play as a race especially after 'essentially' paying for them.
Its about as bad as buying Heavensward to play as a Dark Knight, but you have to play through all of Arr's storyline before you can play as a Dark Knight.

So errr ... you're kinda forgetting something important about allied races. Allied Races in WoW are just reskins of current races, an easy way to add some variety while using pre-existing assets. Even the cute furry Vulpera are just reskinned goblins. And then you have the Horde night elves and Iron dwarves. If we had our own allied race mechanic, think of the cool races that we could play. I love the idea of unlockable races, because it makes them cool, more difficult, and a player accomplishment to earn.

So the list of potential allied races above would require completely new assets to be developed and then have the clothes be modeled on those new races which would require a LOT of time. An example of allied races would be a new race of mechanical miqote, or a vampire race of Elezen.

Hard no to Allied races. They were a bad idea in WoW and are still widely disliked and they would be a bad idea in FFXIV.
However, I would love to see something similar to ESO skins where it just changes the texture of your skin to something cool like magma/crystal skin.

What? When did they start doing that in WoW? That sounds horrible. The rep grind for stuff was already bad enough.
I stopped after Pandaria and poked my head in for Legion but have mostly left WoW alone since I left off regularly playing it.
