How is PVP in this game?

The latest game update made me curious about something: what is the PvP like in this game? Is cheating with bot accounts rampant, or was it a one-off that was swiftly banned (as they have stated in the update)? Are people friendly in PvP, or is it more like an XBox Live experience? I certainly do not want to play with people who are shouting profanities at my ear so any information is appreciated before I try it out!

Cheating isn't rampant, because SE would crack down on it immediately like they just did.

Nobody shouts profanities, because they would get reported for it, but there can be tension sometimes, often just over eachothers' actions. In The Feast (the PvP without objectives) you actually can't chat.

I personally find PvP really fun, but you will find a lot of people like to say it's boring.

You can do it from level 30, so you can queue for it right now and see if you want.

I wouldn't suggest listening to the main opinion from people in the category on the forums, because whereas they arrive at a similar conclusion, they lack the nuance.

    Cheating in PVP is as follows;

    Frontlines and rival wings cheating:

In frontlines and rival wings, you may have afk bots (like on SB release, when it had huge xp gains) and still kind of does, from farmers. It's annoying and happens a little bit but nothing game ruining.

The actual hacking of flying mechs in rival wings is something that has happened a few times, but happened a fair bit recently and has been dealt with.

Across all PVP modes there have been speed hackers and SE have been inconsistent to ban them. Sometimes getting them, sometimes never.

    Rival wings community:

The pvp community exists in rival wings and is fairly healthy. https://discord.gg/sYgdUv5nFM

They get games going every weekend and are quick to form parties and advice, not overly competitive, lots of people want their Monke or title.

    The Feast Community:

Now feast is a troublesome child.

Ranked modes bring out the worst in any games as we know, se have no party chat so if anyone is going to be toxic, they have to do it after, via pms, which you can report and I know of flamers that have been banned.

There is the pvpaissa community https://discord.gg/7yAnAHX which is for pvp as a whole, but mainly for ranked and considering the nature of a ranked game mode that has a terrible matchmaking system, it's pretty healthy too. Yeah you might get the annoyed passive aggressive comment in there, but a lot of feasters are depressed people who spend way too much time playing this terrible game mode because it's the only thing they're good at, so you'll need to forgive and understand them.

    The Feast and cheating:

Now cheating regarding feast will usually have people tell you

"Feast is all wintraders and boosters"

Which is far from the truth. I'd say on any given top 100 board, 90%+ players are legit. And if someone is being boosted or wintrading, the average pleb that tells you it's all cheating isn't actually good enough themselves to notice how cheating is done.

I believe primal had a boosted Rank 1 in season 14/15 and nothing happened to that player.
Again, there have been boosts on Chaos and Light and nothing has ever happened to these players.

Wintraders, when they're caught, usually get removed from the board, it's happened already on light. However SE doesn't remove their rewards, nor do they retroactively remove rewards off them from previous seasons (which they absolutely should). A wintrader on chaos, that got mad and flamed everyone once a GM caught him and banned him for a week still uses his top 10 title and season 9 armour glam :/

    So tl;dr
If you are being boosted you won't get caught, SE don't care, however if you wintrade or hack, you will be caught eventually, just you probably won't receive too much of a punishment for it.

Normal, it's not an aberration like FFXI (God still gives me PTSD the pvp of that game) but it's not even remotely good like Wow or GW2.

The main problems already come from the servers and the game code to the point that they tried to fix it by increasing the distance of the male attacks but of course it is still a problem especially when you use a potion and the healing of this comes later, this happens a lot especially in skills like Holmang or CC in general where you have to "predict" what the other is going to do because it is impossible to react as in other games because of skills it has a delay in general that in PVE is not a problem but in PVP affects a lot.

Man, the situation is not even remotely similar to what it was years ago, do I have to remember things like this in Stormblood?

Not if it ended up banning people but during all that expansion the Frontlines were shit because they began to give experience by playing. In Shadowbringers I have hardly seen these situations and during my 100 victories in the last Frontline I count on the fingers of my hands similar situations and that I played in both Primal and Crystal.

I'll give the Level 30 PvP a shot, thanks.

Good point about the delay issue. I've noticed that FF14 feels laggy sometimes.

I recommend you before trying since your first time can be frustrating is to see a guide
    https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...pguide/system/

Go to the pvp area, fix your hotbard, check the objectives of each map and enter to test. Always have your map open, read the chat and do not attempt suicide attacks as you will only make your team lose points.

I'll put it this way: the hotfix announcement was the first time I remembered there *ACTUALLY WAS PvP* in this game since mid-2019.

These are good points, be sure to go to the Wolves' Den Pier and set up your PVP hotbars there. PVP hotbars are stored seperately and there's some abilities that only exist in that context.

Try to move with the group. Generally someone will be trying to call the shots for the alliance, and you want to be working with your teammates. Running away from a losing battle is better than a bunch of deaths unless it's a situation that's going to decide the game.
