Bots have put a dent in the crafting market but it hasn't killed it unlike what some will claim. A bigger dent has come from more players able to craft now. Prices for many items are lower than their equivalents in past expansions but there's still plenty of room for profit.

One secret to making gil is not spending what you've already earned unless you have to. Ask yourself what you're spending your gil on and if there are other options for less or no gil.

Been paying teleport fees? Buy Aetheryte tickets with Allied or Centurio Seals instead.

Buying materia off the MB? Buy it with the clusters you get from level 80 dungeons and hunts instead (you'll occasionally get the materia itself from the level 80 dungeons).

Repairs are cheaper if you've leveled the right crafting classes and a single leveled crafting class lets you do your own melding (though I wouldn't recommend leveling crafting just for repairs and melding).

The amounts you spend on those things may not seem like much individually but they do add up over time.

Once you stop spending it unnecessarily, the amount of gil you have will increase. You might want to start thinking about what you've been spending your gil on and find ways to get what you need through other methods.
