    No, they're definitely right.

Crafting is ridiculously easy this expansion. Recipe difficulty was reduced, the toolkit was simplified, materials are easier to obtain, EXP was practically tripled and Ishgard added an easy way to spam collectibles for that exp. As a result, a large number of players who previously had no interest in crafting have a maxed DoH now (even if they still don't particularly enjoy crafting). So competition on the markets has skyrocketed while at the same time most players are self-sufficient so demand for crafted items has dropped.

That doesn't mean bots aren't an issue. They exist and are a problem, but they aren't the entire reason. The changes to crafting has also indirectly made botting far more viable due to easily leveled and geared crafters, easy to bot mats, easy crafts and cross world markets. It's a far more simple matter now to obtain a maxed DoH and jump straight into mass botting.

Quick and honest opinion on making money with crafting.

Currently the RMT's seem to be in their test phase with market botting. Turns out it works. . . and they make alot more than several million a week.
Their actions have gone unpunished and more RMT's (and even players) have began running the same third party program.

It's a bit doom and gloomish but if SE doesnt do anything about it then we can only expect the problem to get worse.

I fully expect that every item on the market board will eventually be covered by these bot RMT's.

*Side note* My main has been crafter/gatherer for 8 years. If ya wanna take advice from people that barely do it... knock yourself out.

I laugh at all these crafters who have for years dominated and cornered markets suddenly crying when said markets are opened up to more people to participate in and prices drop to reasonable levels.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

For me it’s been crafting. I’ll find a particular item, craft 20 of it and take over that particular section of the market, then repeat for each retainer.

I haven't done much by way of crafting, but gathering + selling materials from the Diadem during Ishgardian restoration rankings, I made something like 30+ million gil (starting from 1.5 million, minus costs for gear needed to gather).
Still trying to clear the materials out of my inventory by selling, which can net me anywhere from 100k to 500k per day. Things don't sell at quite as high a price or as frequently as they did during rankings, but it's still a fairly reliable source of income!

Basically, people will pay for convenience, and I've made far more from selling raw materials and fairly basic things like thread in bulk than I have off of any mid-level crafts. Haven't maxed any crafters, so I can't really speak for those.

Also, my retainers seem to enjoy bringing me back some fairly expensive glams and furniture pieces from quick ventures, so I either don't need to pay for them myself OR I can sell them off for a nice price. There have been times where I don't have time to play, but I'll just log in real quick to refresh my retainers' ventures, lol

They've started putting together treasure map farming parties now, so that expectation seems pretty reasonable.

I've only noticed one of them on Aether DC, but when you have them going at it literally 24/7 it's bound to start tanking prices sooner then later.

Going to loosely agree with this, emphasizing the frustration of bots. Been trying to sell some items for a week now, just to have things undercut within minutes of relisting every single time not matter what time of day from 5+ different sellers. Though, humorously, I have been deliberately lowering some of the markets to the benefit of other buyers because at this point I'm just being fueled by spite.

This isn't to say there aren't items worth crafting or gathering, but becoming a multi-gillionaire overnight is highly unlikely.
