What's the story behind your name?

Nyr Ardyne doesn't have that much of a story behind it, I just played around with sounds in my head and that's what I came up with.

My viera alt's name is Tarynis Arda. Arda is the name of the village she grew up in. Tarynis however is named for the fields next to the forest she was born in since her mother used to like gazing over them and watching the outside world.

My other alt I made up on the spot :P

Avarnia's got a fun name. Its her best guess translation into eorzean from dragonspeak (not helped by Eorzean according to the first lore book, having a bit variation on how things are spelt) with some slight changes to make it easier to speak for those that aren't auri, miqote or ishgardian. The first is what the eorzean translation would be, the second is her actual name

On the forum and also in game kind of. Well forum I wasn't sure but I think Mira normal was taken or maybe not I don't know but added some dashes to it.

As for my oldest character on this account I kept Mira for a first name and Amariyo was just a random name option that clicked with me when I made the character. Irl my family name starts with an A too. Mira is kind of a short version of my actual name. I don't mind being called Mira and it will certainly also make things less awkward if per chance (if let's say a fanfest is to happen) and people are like oh hi Mira, I won't have to correct people too much. Like some people may still call me by my full name but at least I know I respond to Mira just as well without feeling awkward about it. Also my second name if put into katakana in Japanese ends on Mira so all together it suits me well actually.

Feel a little less about Amariyo I may change it someday. I play on a NA server and some native to Spanish people thought I am a Spanish speaker because Amariyo sounds like amarillo which makes my name sort of sound like "Look Yellow" in their language... ehm... Sorry I wish I knew the language, but I don't.

Same fun thing sort of happened to my Chaos alt I gave her the name Mira again and added Celeste to it because I like the name Celeste (and also the colour of sky blue and the Celeste green we got). I like that it means "of the sky / heavenly". But also learned that in Italian Mira Celeste means Aim Celestial or Celestial Aim or so? I umm idk not really what I meant to I just like the sound. I am aware Mira is a word in some latin languages but in my case it is really just closer to my own name. I do dress up my chaos Mira in som blue clothes often though I also have an affection for soft pinks and stronger reds so don't be surprised if I dress my character in those.

I think my favourite colours are Blue and Green with a high liking of some Reds that certainly can be called favourites too.

Edit wanted to add:
My JP alt got the name Madelief Hinagiku, both words mean Daisy one in Dutch and one in Japanese. Japan and the Netherlands have a long trade but also somewhat cultural exchange history. The foreigners were to stay on a little man made island called Dejima also sometimes spelled as Decima or Desjima. The beginning sounds a little bit like Daisy phonetically if you use some fantasy. The Dutch (and possibly also Japanese?) word is a girls name so all together I just thought it would be the perfect name for a character on Elemental to get to know the other side of the world a little better.

Hayk was the first name I had in my first MMO (Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent). It has stuck with me since then. Farsight was the last name I chose for FF14 on a whim, since most MMOs I played never had a last name to choose.

Yui is my favorite character from my favorite RPG, Xenogears. Fairly straightforward!

Both my forum handle and my character's first name is a name I've used for nearly 20 years now online - it's how SE's original official English translation of the PS1 release of FFV spelled Enkidu's name, Enkidu being of course the wildman from the ancient Mesopotamian story The Epic of Gilgamesh, and also naturally Gilgamesh's close friend and companion in the FF series. I picked the name at random from an ancient issue of EGM magazine that had a FFV strategy guide; at the time I needed a new login name for eBay (my then normal name I used for internet handles already being taken), and I closed my eyes and pointed it at random on the boss fight section, finding it had ended up on the final Gilgamesh fight. Not surprisingly, Gilgamesh was already taken on eBay, but Enkidoh naturally wasn't. So I quickly changed that, and the name stuck with me ever since (my character in FFXI is also named 'Enkidoh' ).

My character's surname however was chosen by my boyfriend, who also used the name for his character (yes, our characters are married in-game ). I can't remember what he told me about where he got the name from, but the word of course is a type of soup base in French cooking (I believe it's also derived from rouge, which I understand is the French word for 'red', which is appropriate for Enki's red hair, but that's a whole different barrel of moogles.).

Only thing that's slightly newer is the Kaligawa, no clue where I got it from.

To be fair it was just Yoshi for a long time, then the Matrix film came out.
