I got disconnected while crafting. Is there a way to retrieve materials back?

I was about to finish my i490 body piece and got it to 100% for HQ and was ONE button away from finishing it.

Then I got disconnected. It was bad enough I got disconnected and losing all that progress, but losing all my materials sucks too.

Is there a way I could contract SE or something? Though, I just went ahead and bought more materials... sadly NQ cause I'm not spending all my Gil on the highest priced one and those are bundle with 10 or so.

I find this frustrating. I wish they made it in the event you get disconnected from the internet your progress is "paused" to save your progress and when you return the game ask if you wish to continue or you could refuse (which results in lose of material doing so).

Like how some mobile games "pause" your progress or "reset" in the event you get dc'd.

Cause this is garbage. A very fatal flaw to crafting especially when gathering rare materials and losing it all due to a connection error.

As far as I know, there's no way to retrieve the lost mats. I had exactly the same scenario 5 or 6 years ago when I was doing ARR 3 star crafting back when it was the ultimate challenge. My first item was just about to complete at 100% quality when I DC-ed. The rest assured, I did everything I could to try to contact SE but with no avail. I lost about 1 million worth of mats there, and I had to do a good number of dungeons and a bunch of gathering to recover all the lost mats.

That is utter unacceptable. Sorry you had to go through that.

I did just get normal materials and manage to get the i490 Crafting Chest piece made in HQ with 84%. I got lucky.

They really need to do something about this issue. My connection was fine and it suddenly went dead out of the blue.

I do wish they take the suggestion where it pauses your progress in the event you dc'd or need to stop for like DF if you're waiting or something. Like save the progress on your character to resume later and start off where you were with the amount of CP you have left and such.

Might be tricky, but its this kind of thing that makes me uneasy to do crafting. :<
I mean, I love it. It's a fun system and feels much better overall from its 2.0 days, but this issue is hurting it a bit.

Guess I have to plan my time to craft to assure I don't run into this issue again.

I imagine the reason they don't do it is because players could abuse it by doing a force disconnect if they aren't happy with the progress on their craft.

I know I've been through my share of disconnections while crafting end game items, it's frustrating but not the end of the world. Hopefully it won't happen to you again. Glad you were able to get it made with the extra materials you bought.

I would have thrown my controller and flipped a table.... 3 star in ARR was Dark Souls punishing.

I know... that's the only issue I see that they can't "change" it. Because, it can and WILL be abused.

That said, I do prefer if they adopted the mobile game method of "saving" your progress. I may not like mobile games, but they do have some good ideas. Especially in the event of a disconnection or game crash.

It's been so long since the old ARR days of crafting, I forgot how annoying it was to do some crafting. I got my crafts all to 50 at the time so I can just meld my Materia and then it had you extract Materia that destroyed your gear... making getting Materias very rare and difficult compared to now.

Also, a LOT of RNG and poor skills. I have to look back on some old videos on 2.0 - 4.0 crafting before the changes. I kinda forgot how it was at the beginning now.

still they could do that, max one time a month you could use backup plan to take back lost items coz of DC, and if You were crafting super pricy stuff then it would work out, better that than nothing,

yet anyway, now it do not matter coz is cheap

anyway coz I can not edit

game already track players progress and quality, if SE wanted, they could code game in a way - that if you dc and connect back you are back to same state as it was before, nothing lost

Well, I did remember the feelings I had... It was old times when I literally had less than 1 million gil in total, and back then a few millions was like a few hundred millions these days. I was so shocked and stunned, that both my hands literally suddenly turned cold (I guess something happened to my blood flow?), and I couldn't breathe for a short period of time. Only after that shocking period, then I started to fret, and tried to think what I could do to amend the situation. >_<

Just imagine yourself handling an item worth more than your total bank amount, and it didn't just go NQ, but was a COMPLETE LOSS. That was my experience. There was literally "no energy to flip a table"...

While a pause function would likely work without being abusable, it's probably not possible for the same reason the vast majority of QoL changes aren't possible in this game. The coding can't handle it.
