I could see the merit in incrementally increasing the cap throughout the patch cycle it is active. I think doubling it every week is too much, but to increase it by say 25 ( I didn’t crunch numbers just an example) every week until it’s maxed @ 2k would be a blessing to those that like to gear multiple jobs, but not open the floodgates on reducing raiding longevity.

I actually get all of my tomestones in Bozja now.

What if you miss out on like 4 weeks and now have like 1800 tomestones to grind? I think the fact that the developers don't even remove the weekly cap until the new weekly-capped tomestones appear, even with the long wait between 5.2 and 5.4 is deliberate.

People like to procrastinate and then "work" more at the last minute if given the chance. It can be unhealthy. With the current limits, if you miss out on a week or two or four, then you miss out, but it's not the end of the world. They don't want you to work harder to try to catch up, but if you do want to, you can try getting HQ sets or Savage gears to supplement. Alternatively, there are also dungeon and alliance raid gears.
It's already like that. Right now some people feel pressured to cap tomes every week and some people don't. How would this change anything?

It depends what you need the gear for. Raid and tomestone are weekly capped, so dungeon gear can still be an update to your secondary/tertiary gear set.

It's been 7 years, I think it's time to shake up the system a bit. However, I can live with the tome system if they would shake up how we get/cap tomes. Expert dungeons are just boring. Capping tomes just becomes a weekly chore to do that takes away time from doing things that would be fun.
I don't see a need to shake up what works. Tomestone provides the ability to get gears with a variety of activities, some more efficiently than others, with supplemental/alternative gears being available as well.

The limit makes the difference. Regardless of how many times you miss out on capping, you will always only need to do 450 in a week until it is no longer the current tomestone.

people say "Shake things up" but with how tight the ilvl differences are you can't really do that without ballooning those numbers. as well they like to make each set of gear a set whether it be reskins or new ones.

They do increase the token cap, though. Around 5.55 when it no longer matters, to give you a chance to get caught up for the expansion.

Which is honestly just as pointless. Why would you need the increased tomestones? For ilvl? At that point you can get augmented 520 crafted gear. For glamour? Well unless you're doing savage to get some extra upgrade materials tough luck because the 24man is still gonna have the weekly cap of 1 coin.

Simple: To prep jobs for 6.0 leveling.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

You can still just use augmented crafted gear for that. On top of that I would assume that the new expansion MSQ will also reward you with HQ vendor/crafted gear of appropriate level again. So your first job is already covered.
Any subsequent job you level can be easily geared with the current tomestone gear that is then available for just poetics.

To me atleast it would make more sense to increase the cap to 900 about a month before a major content patch with a new raid tier (so patch x.2 & x.4), in case you plan on switching jobs. Then again you can just buy the new crafted gear for those once the patch releases.

All in all it's not really a problem, I just don't see why doubling the weekly tomestone cap shortly before a new expansion would be in any way vital for leveling in it.

I agree, OP. For a game that encourages you to play multiple classes, they put massive barriers in place to your being able to gear those classes up.

They could look at limits by class or something. Means you'd have to run the content on the given class, but at least you could keep that class geared up.
