Terrible idea. When did final fantasy become final fasion show?

Well, it seems like a lot of people would like their avatar to look different from the others. Why would it have to be through character creation only ? I think you're simply seeing the MMORPG in the strict sense, and that's being narrow-minded.
And besides, it can be taken as a form of Role Play (changing clothes following your mood).

And if you don't like it but other people would like to have it, why wouldn't you just not use it ?

Yes, I would really like to see this announced for 2.0. Assuming there are reasonable restrictions. There are more than enough people that want it.

As long as they are enough people against it, it makes no sense. This game doesnt need this, because the gear is cool enough and it makes no logical sense. c'mon people there are other things out there this game needs.

That almost sounds like reasons NOT to have a vanity slot, or at least a reason not to have a cash shop.

OPs idea is good allows variety without chaos. Do not implement a cash shop or turn this totally into dress up party, you will regret it.

There are always the yay and nay sayers but... Come on people really? The nay sayers sound so illogical it's ridiculous. You're against allowing people to appear to wear full AF(for example) while actually wearing darklight or some triple melded(better stats) gear... Just because someone has darklight gear on doesn't mean they like how it looks.

What is so final fashion or whatever about it? How does it fit in every other modern MMO but FFXIV? Do you grab your pitch forks when people throw on their shades and other "Town Gear" while they stand around AFK... Town Gear is an archaic way to allow people to be creative when DCUO/SWTOR/AION/WoW/etc has a similar feature as the OP that gives the same results. It's becoming(you can say it already is) a modern feature just like a content finder is now.

If we are still going to battle actually wearing armor(appearance) and not killing naked with darklight gear, what is the issue? You're upset that people will actually become creative with how they look on/off the battlefield? We will no longer be subjected to wearing uniforms as if we are all part of the military.

Are we not adventurers?

Well..we are playing a fantasy type game, hehe it even has fantasy in the title! It would be nice to have some more fantasy type outfits instead of all this ugly, dark colored gear. atm the only stuff that looks nice is AF imo...

Not to mention that in past FFs all heroes have well-designed outfits that make them recognizable. None of them dressed like mismatched clowns to get results (Gogo being the exception, not the rule).

If we would have this system people would run around still looking same. They would all choose the awesome looking gear.

To add, aesthetics have actually gotten me to try playing classes and roles I normally don't play. I'm either melee or sword-and-magic hybrid. Transmog in WoW actually got me interested in playing a mage, after I found an outfit I liked and willingly forked over the gold to change any upgrades to my standard outfit. Believe me, the ability to change the weird-looking robes to more modest "wanderer"-type clothing is more powerful than you think.
