I personally could careless about a toggle feature, but I do not think it will ever happen. You'll have each character with two different rendered sets of gear, which is dependent on if client has set toggle on or off. My assumption is it would probably cause all types of lag. I just don't think it's realistic.

This is how it works in the vast majority of other MMOs without much complaint. Off the top of my head I can't think of a single MMO that allows one class to look like another.

What for? All client side needs is for the server to send the data of what they are wearing, thats like if someone told you 10 tells (in this case its most likely 1 really long string). So minimal, sending text like data is nothing.

Then the client renders the first set rather then the second.

This game's community is quite different though.

No toggle feature needed. If people dislike what you are wearing by appearance, then they don't need to add you to their parties/events. It's that simple. Its just a aesthetic change, and I'm pretty sure it would be class/race/job locked, so their wont be any "omg that BLM is wearing WAR armor!"... that would just be stupid. Believe in your SE~ Considering they have already stated they did not want people to be mistaken for another class/job, and wanted people to still can be identified to a class/job. So of course their will be some limitation.

I hope some scenarios allow Party leaders or instances to turn off vanity slots. It would be weird to find a group with Content Finder and everyone is in a Santa costume. Who is playing what job? Kind of annoying.

PvP could be frustrating, too. "He was wearing a reindeer costume! How could I know that he was a BLM?"

    Eh.....

I'd rather see quests to reforge AF to better stats rather than vanity slots. There's a very careful and specific progression in armor in these Final Fantasy MMOs that seems like would become pointless if they allowed you to cover up what the gear actually looks like.

I'm not really hard line on my position though. I can understand why some people would want this but I personally don't really see a need for it in this game. Either way I would hope to see some heavy restrictions on it such as requiring that you physically obtain an item with the look before you can use it as a vanity item and maintain the level and class restrictions on the item being used in the vanity slot.

This was Yoshi's original stated reason to not have a vanity system in place. There are actual practical reasons why the vanity system will interfere with game play, while there are no practical reasons for having it. It's pretty short sighted of people to not realize this even if they are for the vanity system. The toggle option alleviates all issues involved.

..... seeing their staff on their back? Its display is off? well Im pretty sure if you see someone without their weapon out its safe to assume its a mage job.
