I don't like this vanity slot idea because what you wear should be what's shown.
I can see a bunch of subligars going around if this is implemented.
However, this is just my opinion. Since a rep brought this up, I would like to express my thought and my vote that I personally hope this will not be implemented.
Think you misunderstand, it's not about Barbie dress up to me. Dark light heavy is heavy duty makes sense to do well for a tank. But a tank using dark light stats and a dream suit doesn't.people complain about not wanting to see ugly things or mismached well...
blm's running around in grand company body is ugly now way does that look like mage gear either. theres been partys where guys wanted to be thm because they can ware there fancy vanya armor but most the time there denied to blm.
heavy dark light body is retarded ooogly. i rather throw a colbalt plate or hauby even AF body in its place while using its the stats from DL.
Its not one-sided, you are just not presenting your argument well at all. As a fantasy set game, your immersion will always be altered slightly to not make sense with reality. It is a good thing however that I don't depend on the immersion of reality to satisfy my needs for it. I play a fantasy based game, which means I want items, situations, and worlds that are far out of reality from my own.
The argument of vanity slots comes down to a technical scale if anything. Some believe in making a unique looking character to help them immerse themselves into the world. Others like to wear the latest gear to display what they have achieved to everyone. There really isn't a right or wrong if vanity slots are good or not, because both sides can make a valid argument.
However, what I do believe is that we should be given a choice to use this standard feature. Of course you have to make restrictions such as you can only wear what your job can, no event items, and so on.
There is no victor in this argument because no one is wrong, it is an opinion based matter. In short, use it if you like it, or not, up to you, and it shouldn't affect your experience with the game.
EDIT: Also like to point out that seasonal items like bathing suits and reindeer suit won't work with vanity well even if you could put them in there. Bathing suits are underwear and whatever you are wearing over it would cover it, vanity or not. Reindeer suit also conflicts with a few pieces unless you are wearing gear with no feet.
Still have dream suits (santa outfit) :P and stupid coliseum suits.. "loin cloth" pfft they just wanted an excuse to make a lunar like gear without pissing off lunar swim wear people.
Anyway I like this post - very middle ground.

Keep it for your job restricted gear and I'm ok with this. But Blackmages running around in plate....

<<<<<no these are the kind of people lol. I'm urked by mismatched gear and its way more immersion breaking than anything to me. You would never go in to battle with plate and felt armor. Armor tends to be made as a set and it looks better as a set. Not to mention you run the risk of not being able to move properly in mismatched gear. I'm glad Yoshi saw the benefits of this too. I still have yet to see any good arguments against vanity slots, besides the people who dont want to see yukatas tanking, though it has been asked that vanity slots be job restricted/ and hopefully some other restrictions just to keep things realistic. I dont understand why people seem to be so opposed to this...
A great victory was had today.
