It would be cool if they were able to make jobs and some systems in place that find a happy medium from too action and not at all, such that those who are more tab target players can still enjoy the game and those who want to get into the "thick of it" with intense more direct input activities could.
And FF7R kinda showed this possibility with each character having different skills and limits breaks, all hot keyable. It would just need fleshed out a bit more. Cant really get behind the medium between the two. Any game that has done this has just felt worse than either of them.

I suppose when I say medium I mean medium through a variety of options. If you find a medium by allowing specific jobs to be medium, neat. If you find out some smart systems that work- great. FF7R is a medium, imo.

Not saying a split direct down the middle, make it half of everything. Just, ensure that a tab target player isn't left up creek without a chocobo.

I mean exactly what you say. There are MMOs that have tried it, and it feels absolutely terrible. Neither side is fleshed out, parts of each end up conflicting with each other. Almost always ends with it being action in appearance only with everything under the hood being tab target.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. You lauded FF7R as doing well, I say that's an example where it's not so action oriented that tab target players would be ruined (and such feelings can be developed further through different jobs, just like in FFXIV where certain jobs are simply and easy and others are chaotic), and then I feel like I'm reading you say you don't think finding a balance for players is possible?

Because it in general does it well. Not perfect, and I see attempts to bring it into and MMO and keep the tab target aspects more leading to what other MMOs who attempted such ended up with (action in appearance only).

So in your mind FF7R wouldn't do well in an MMO setting? Because I'd be fine if it was the FF7R system. Although, personally, I would be fine if it was even more action oriented (I just worry that it would kill some tab target player's desires). To note.. I do want to have more than a few skills, sometimes as they get too action oriented you go from like 40 skills to 4 lol. I'd like more than 4 skills .

If yes it will do fine then I'm not sure what we're discussing since I called that happy medium lol, and if no then I guess I was confused you said you'd wanted it more like that system but even that system you're not thinking is great..?

Also who knows maybe FFXVI is an improvement on FF7R, might be the good one of all the bunch~! I'd love if they were making big design concepts early for the next MMO such that when it is made it's not a rush / incomplete or put out too early like FFXIV was (1.0).

I think it would do better than FFXV or FFXVI, it would just need tweaks. As for action combat that doesn't skimp on skills, look up TERA. Maybe not as much as a tab target MMO, but far more skills than most action combat MMO attempts. Others like Black Desert role their skills into various button combos rather than hotkeys.
