It would highly depend on what the combat system in the new game was like (at this point I'd expect a more hack 'n slash style combat, which doesn't appeal to me in MMOs) and if it did away with any thing I dislike about XIV.

Also as much as I get fun out of XIV, if this new game was also designed with the "progress is done solo 90% of the time" mindset I'd probably just stick with XIV until I was done playing MMORPGs.

If the new FFMMO focuses on action combat which I'm sure it will since FFXV and FFXVI are action combat and all other FF's after will most likely be action combat - As well as a story/world focused on the Kingdom of Ivalice (FF Tactics), yes.

Once I finish the main Hydaelyn/Zodiark story arc and a few long term achievements I've been working on I think I would be ready to move on.

Depends on how cool it looks, and whether or not I can afford something that runs it. I remember when FFXIV trailer showed up in 2009, I was hurting in my soul, because I knew I wouldn't be able to get a machine that could run it. I spent all of 1.0 holding onto hope that they'd release it on console.

But that was when it looked like a new FFXI. I was massively into FFXI. Hook line and sinker, every expansion, every mission, every high end content until 2013.

Had it not been for the situation with my ex-girlfriend dumping me and FFXI getting somewhat tainted at the time because of it, along with a ton of my FFXIah forum friends tugging on my arm to come try FFXIV 2.0, AND 2.0 coming out on PS3... well I likely wouldn't have continued with MMORPGs.

Only WoW from the big 4 has "modern" engine. Hell GW2 and ESO don't even have any kind of multithread support

depends on a lot of factors
    1. is it fun? Excess grind or content locked behind groups but nobody is doing it means i wont play.

    2. is the story good?

    3. how good is the game engine and programmers? A game is built on the foundation of its engine, and the programmers getting everything they can out of it. Spaghetti code should be addressed and if a delay is needed for it, then so be it. Players are much more forgiving and willing to wait if they know there will be a major payoff. As it stands, games are becoming increasingly stagnant because none have a very up to date engine.

    4. what is the developer's mindset to feedback and content? Do they care about experiences for the mid tier player majority rather than complete newbies or top end players, address concerns, communicate reliably or do they just ignore things and refuse to admit mistakes. Does the content allow for those without a reliable schedule? Is there enough variety and challenge for the players and is it clearable/accessible for those without friends or statics?

    5. how monetised is it? There's only a certain amount players will tolerate as SE learned recently with the marvel thing.

EW is likely going to be my last expansion honestly, I echo what a previous poster said earlier- there really isn't a "good" mmo atm, just a decent few. FF14 is held back by its engine and dev mindset.

Spaghetti code is wearing thin as an excuse when its becoming increasingly clear some of it is not spaghetti code but lack of developer intent and/or resources. SE needs to stop running the ff14 team on a shoestring. I know enough about programming though to recognise that engine limitations is a fairly heavy millstone that takes time to chip away at. The animators at least are putting in a lot of effort and props to them.

Developer mindset however is a major problem that unfortunately shows no signs of changing and is likely the major cause for more players than just me thinking about leaving this mmo. Healers being treated as a tickbox to fill rather than a large section of players who want to have fun. Ui team blatantly lying about difficulty of putting in a small but valuable change. Community relations nonexistant with non japanese and overall communication turning solely into marketing rather than much needed feedback and response

I want to support this game. It could be one of the best games in the history books. But unless the devs give some sign of major improvements come endwalker, then the final chapter of the hydaelyn/zodiark saga will be a fitting time to get off this train.

While you mention FFXV and FFXVI action combat, I'd hope they'd us FF7R's action combat instead. Feels much better and easier to adapt to an MMO setting.

I mean, I still play XI so... Why limit myself if a new one comes out that I wind up interested in? But that's the kicker, it would need to be appealing in the first place.

If they made the game more action based and improved the movement systems.. oh my god yes. YEEEEEEeeEEEsss!

It would be cool if they were able to make jobs and some systems in place that find a happy medium from too action and not at all, such that those who are more tab target players can still enjoy the game and those who want to get into the "thick of it" with intense more direct input activities could.

I feel adding a lot of smart casting features would help, like in LoL, HotS, or DotA, where you can still control where stuff goes but if you play at a high level you use smart casting to reduce your clicks and make things go faster. An example of smart casting would be you press the hotkey to get the AoE marker to appear and then when you release it casts (there is no confirmation click, it's all one key press)- this means if you tap the key then you just cast that spell, booom!, but if you held the key you could be more careful and slow about it. This works well for movement skills too where you can then fine-tune the direction but not have to click a bunch. Like dancer's could be an arrow marker bound to your center, simply holding it allows the dancer to see exactly the path they would take or just tap it and move (with the improved movement system making it feel a lot better), or ninja if you just tap it then you would blink to the location and if the mouse was farther than cast range it would blink to max distance in the direction you picked (all in one key press).

I personally would probably enjoy a shift to the more action side, like some of their sRPGs recently, but I wouldn't really want to see a bunch of slower paced and or tab target biased players to be ruined. So hopefully some smart systems and or jobs designed to make everyone happy.

And FF7R kinda showed this possibility with each character having different skills and limits breaks, all hot keyable. It would just need fleshed out a bit more. Cant really get behind the medium between the two. Any game that has done this has just felt worse than either of them.
