Mordion Gaol is a bad system

So yesterday I got thrown in Mordion Gaol for apparently breaking the rules about offensive content/language. Okay, but why?

While I'm thankful for the GM who released me, I shouldn't have had to wait for five hours to get released, with no indication that the Gaol is where I am I at. Googling about the place gave me more information than Square Enix did. There was no prompt that I had been jailed, no explanation as to why, and no indication that a GM would come help me. It felt like I had to stay at my computer for all those hours, skip hygiene, not bother to cook, or do anything out of fear of being held in limbo longer. The entire process makes you wonder if they're even going to reply to you. It feels incredibly isolated and alone.

I have spent so much money on this games lifetime. I do not want to lose everything, so this was not only traumatizing, it was incredibly scary.

Would a cop be allowed to arrest you and not tell you why you're being arrested? Of course not, so why isn't Square Enix transparent about WHY? How can I improve my behavior and learn about what I did wrong, and how to avoid strikes against my account, if I never even have clear answers?

What they basically did could have honestly been dealt with in a tell while I was online. This extreme process was unnecessary. The entire Mordian Gaol system needs an overhaul. It's so bad for mental health, and honestly at risk of being incredibly corrupt.

I am disappointed. My experience felt incredibly unethical.

Don’t break the rules and you don’t go there. Never been there in all the years I played.

I agree it’s a bad system though. I would have just banned you.

For what though. Again, nothing was ever specified.

    Let’s be honest...

Do you have perhaps a little inkling as to why you might have broken rules on offensive language/behaviour?

I agree at the bare minimum it should at least give you a popup letting you know why you are there, and to wait for a gm (Or to supply a ticket, if you're at minimum concerned it'll take a while).

If a player actually doesn't know what it is, logging into such a place out of nowhere will throw them really off. I know I know "Don't break the rules" but even a rulebreaker is at least allowed to know why they're stuck in there unable to play, without having to google it.

It's designed that way to mitigate or outright prevent witch-hunting, to encourage people to report bad behavior due to anonymity.

If the GMs said exactly what instance of dialogue you got reported for, a person could potentially figure out who reported them, and attempt to witch-hunt/harass them on platforms outside of Square Enix's control. (IIRC, this is what happened with a popular streamer by the name of Arthars, who got banned due to blatantly making fun of a low damage party member, which caused a bunch of JP trolls & the streamer's fans to witch-hunt the player since they knew who reported him.)

While the Mordion Gaol could be improved (especially in response time), there are reasons why they're not transparent. Don't insult others, don't use bad words when you're not among close friends is the unspoken rule in this game. All it takes is one person finding your language offensive to end up there.

Not in the slightest to be honest. I legitimately do not know.

Well it doesn't work. People don't improve without transparency. I can't do anything to work on my behavior if they don't let me know why. It was all a collosal waste of time.

We can spend our time focusing on me breaking the rules like kindergardeners, or we can actually have a discussion about the bad customer support system that this game has.

A system that only tells you did something bad, but never what is not only toxic, it is unhealthy. People need to be allowed to grow and to know what they can do to be better. To not be transparent shows a lack of agency for individuality, and character. It shows a lack of caring or understanding in any capacity. No one paying their sub should be treated in such a way.

You know why, clearly. You said you were put there for "offensive content/language". Don't use that kind of language around people you don't know. There's your transparency.

You're missing the point. I don't know why at all. That description is entirely subjective when we live in a world with so many different viewpoints on what constitutes being offensive.

My mother for instance constantly insists that "hell" is a swear word, even though it's mild. She's also very religious.

So again considering different sensitivity levels, how am I supposed to know if they don't specify. Literally ANYTHING can be taken as offensive these days. Cancel culture is incredibly rampant, and being vague doesn't help. I do not know what I did to get me in trouble. I have absolutely no idea, so I ask that you please stop acting like I do know.
