I'm expecting either a straight port of the functions the Mog Garden from FFXI had or a version with various QoL adjustments to make it more friendly and interactive.

An instanced area that you can invite friends into that has gardening and minion/pet interactions and MAYBE gathering functions of some manner sounds about the scope of the system until we get more details.

It would be nice if this were the case, particularly if you could choose the theme and setting of your farm... but I highly doubt it's going to work that way.

Just like in the residential districts BUT it doesn't have a stupid hidden count-down timer so people won't be spending 24-48hrs trying to get this one house under the enormous stress of someone next to them taking it who just arrived 5 mins ago. It will just be a plot for you and your instance, only people who can buy it should be you with no timer and has the same specifications of furniture amount and all that, friends can still visit or be tenants, etc etc. The grid will just adjust based on the size of the house or you can upgrade the house as you take care of your farm like in Harvest Moon.

That way people will have a house, won't be risking their lives potentially to even GET a house AND they can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they have a home for them garunteed and with a god dang farm!!! It won't be what we call "Housing Savage" as much anymore!
Deep down I wish that it would be the case too after all no real farming game ever came without a house. But I will keep my excitement down until we got more information.

I’m seeing so much hype for this minion farm it’s pretty crazy considering all we’ve seen of it is a artist picture.
Seriously people are already planning what they’re gonna do, how many friends to invite round, what their house will look like on the farm...it’s not animal crossing or that and I think a lot of people need to chill down and wait for more info or there is going to be a lot of annoyed players when it doesn’t do half of what people have imagined up.

Yeah there seems to be a big assumption that this is going to be a free house or something.

They may potentially incorporate some housing elements into it, he did say ishgard would have enough plots which clearly wouldn’t be the case if they didn’t alleviate demand elsewhere.

But I had the impression of it being a wow garrison style thing more than an instanced house. Or even just a harvest moon style mini game. There’s been nothing to say this has anything to do with housing at all.

There was an interview a bit ago where they asked him about it. (fanbye)

Another of the many surprises revealed during the event was the announcement of so-called Island Sanctuary content. This will allow players to live out pastoral dreams of farming, raising animals, and learning to live off the land. As someone who spent her childhood playing games like Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing, alongside lengthy RPGs, this was lovely news.

“There are fans of Harvest Moon on the Final Fantasy XIV team as well, so everyone seems to be having fun (laughs),” says Yoshida. Island Sanctuary’s creation began at a base level almost two years ago. The developers kept seeing feedback from players who expressed a longing to roam freely around estates and take care of animals while gardening. As a result, the team listened and looked into whether it was possible to develop something new that could be enjoyed as its own standalone content. And, as it turns out, it was.

So even if that still does not tell us much, it at least confirms that they are already working nearly two years on it and that it is indeed inspired by Harvest Moon. Its also stand alone content and was built on feedback about roaming freely around estates and taking care of animals.

I really doubt that its just a small little thing since it took them so long to introduce it. But of course it could still be the case and I will keep my hype in check. But there is nothing wrong with dreaminga bout how it could be.

    Edit:

Here is another one from an interview with PC Games

“Since this is still under development, I’m unable to provide many details,” he explains. “But, this is not something like the Ishgardian Restoration where we expect players to combine their efforts and instead we’re aiming for something that allows players to casually play through on a solo basis at their own pace.
“Think of it as a mode that allows you to create your own space without the need to fulfil requirements set up by others or competing with other players. You can tend to your animals and crops, expand the territory on your island, and let your minions roam free. As such, it’s a mode through which you can enjoy the slow life.”

“This plan actually started a while back as we had received much feedback from players who would like to have their minions roam free in their houses and others who had wanted to raise animals in the game,” Yoshida recalls. “We reached the conclusion that we’d need to prepare a new mode to achieve this, as it was impossible for our housing features to accommodate these requests.

“It was around two years ago that the idea for this mode surfaced. Although we had even expected to release it during the latter half of the Patch 5.X series as we made progress in the development, the scale of the content was still halfway and since we felt there were greater possibilities for this mode, we decided to expand the scope and release it during the 6.X series.

“Of course we have looked at Animal Crossing but that is a series which has grown throughout history as a franchise and the latest title is a culmination of everything their team had accrued. What we’re trying to do is to release this as one of the contents within FFXIV to provide a means for having fun and in that respect the concept is slightly different.”

And this was from the FF14 Showcase:

    New content: Island Sanctuary

    - Not limited to just crafters and gatherers

    - Can raise animals and cultivate land of a deserted island

    - Can sell what you produce and can allow your minions to roam free on the land

My hopes: Instanced housing with a farming mini game akin to Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley
My expectation: Something like Mog Garden from FFXI.

    Here's my thought or wishes.

Make personal housing a part of this farm area while making the current housing districts FC only.

With the little we know.. now speaking out of my chocobo's rear- I imagine it might have some garrison like vibes in which case it will feel homely and have some homely upgrades, what a great opportunity to allow players to upgrade things like get a windmill up and going or a granary. Etc.

However, like Garrison, I assume because it uses nodes it will be memory efficient and easy for SE not to worry about server wise- which means it won't have a full power house. You /could/ feel at home, and it might have some home amenities (which I hope), but it just wont be like full power decoration (you'll have more room, and perhaps equal or more amenities or at least different ones, but just.. you're not going to get to decorate like you could in the 'other' housing system). Perhaps they will add a little bit of outdoor furniture or indoor slots, so you can place trophies and what have you. One plus side if they did make interior space, and if it's garrison like system, is SE will be your decorator and so like Inn rooms you might have some very pretty rest area without having to fiddle with loads of systems and or cry at the market board lol. I do hope there are upgrades and progression to the system, buildings, features, interior, etc.. . Just would be quite neat. Maybe if it does well you might have fishing / sailing nearby, explore the area, open up a cave, thermal hotspring, or something, not sure.. just hope it's not a content that gets made and then dies.

If they can add full powered houses to the system that would of course be cool though, not saying no to that lol! They also may consider, if possible, upgrading their apartment system, and then binding the apartments to the island content such that you could have a two story 'house' (apartment) located within the island (technically don't need to upgrade the apartments to allow players to bind it to the island but a one room situation might feel a bit silly and small, unless perhaps it's like a side room to the building). They've so many apartments they might be able to just move that a little bit more to 'every player can potentially buy one and connect it to their island'.

Hope this content does very well and they expand on it. If it does well kind of wish they consider something like this for airships as well, so you can have a sort of mobile 'action' base and then a homestead.

A housing item that might be quite cool is an upgrade to your door that lets you exit into your island (and airship if that became a thing, or from those other contents into your house).

    Sounds great :3.

I like reading the part where they were like "then we thought we could add more", nice to hear it was something they were making and felt could have more to it. Rather than like wam bam thank you kupo out the door you go.

    I hope it's great.

I’m happy to see them mention it was due for release in ShB. I remembered seeing it was due in 5.3 with Bozja (during ShB pre release press) and then suddenly it got swept under the carpet and was never spoken about or released.
When they announced this for 6.0 and I was like “OMG it’s the thing....” I felt like people didn’t. Believe me. Lol
