It's very difficult to get solid numbers for both games considering neither of them release that information publicly. All we have is skewed attempts done by the public. And where are you getting the stats it has overtaken WoW as a whole? I could see if you are counting Retail and Classic separately but they share a subscription fee thus one payment gets you access to both each month and they should be counted together. Again I would just want data here to prove it as it is hard to fathom between two games somehow one is beating them.

I don't feel it was a good end to the Ascian saga since it really feels like that whole thing was pushed aside in the first half of the expansion to focus on this entirely new concept of dynamis and our new 11th hour villain. For all the years we spent playing up the importance of Hydaelyn and Zodiark they were brushed aside so easily and quickly that they really felt more like side content than the entire focus of the narrative for 4 expansions.Well, yes. Yes it did. It's currently one of the most successful MMO's available, handily overtaking World of Warcraft in terms of active players. Endwalker was an absolute gem, and a fitting finale to the Ascian saga, and we've even given some of the Twelve a kick in the backside. I'm not really sure what more you're asking for, or what you're implying. Can it be improved? Absolutely, but then so can anything. Does that make it bad? No, absolutely not.
Then again, maybe my expectations are just more realistic and less grandiose. Perhaps I should dream bigger, but bigger isn't always better. Anyone who's seen sweeping changes to former MMO's knows how easily tipped the balance can be.

The problem is that Blizzard is not Blizzard anymore, it is Activison. This is why I do not understand why there are some people asking to Yoshi-P leave FF14. They do not understand what amount of disasters can bring a new director. Who will you put? Kitase or Nomura? They are good in their stuff, but I don´t see them managing a MMO.
While I have to agree with your "the devil you know..." warrant here... I feel like a lot of people are feeling basically that exact same energy from XIV of late; that it feels less like any sort of project of love so much as a cash-grab, and Yoshida himself --if only because he's the face that's there, be it to enshrine or burn in effigy-- has become pretty synonymous with that kind of jaded contentedness that many feel is increasingly condemning to a crash that will at best be moderately graceful.
At the same time, I wouldn't trust Kitase or Nomura over Yoshida. But, show me new blood with some real zest and zeal and at least a mostly reassuring amount of experience, ideally alongside proof that more of the game's revenue would be going back into the game and that they're changing things where reasonable to finally beef up their talent, and I'd jump ship real quick.

Both games are meh. The genre needs a revolution. So I keep up on World of Warcraft news and other MMO's to see if they are doing anything interesting that is worth suggesting to the FF14 devs on these forums.
Just got done watching Blizzcon and dear god have Blizzard got themselves into a massive pickle. As predicted the people who said FF14 had systems that were too predictable have now gone silent here and in multiple other forums after seeing how the latest mess has played out.
It is literally so bad that World of Warcraft is about to face the mother of all content droughts as they try to fix the mess they have created and also try to time their next content patch to drown out the FF14 expansion release.
All I got to say is more power to the FF14 devs for having a vision of how they want the MMO played and sticking to without having to reinvent the wheel. I expect a FLOOD of new players leading up to Endwalker because Blizzard just has no vision and yet again they are in clean up mode to fix a mess they created.
If the most we are complaining about is the difficulty in getting a pretty blue glow on my Resistance weapon or how many Ultimates to add then you guys are doing just fine!!
To be perfectly honest, I didn't realize this was a necro'd thread until I had read most of it lol. As much as frequent forum posters here might object, FFXIV is doing very well for itself.
I feel like we all need to take a moment to reflect on just how good we have it here compared to other games in the genre and least every once in a while.

There are several things I'd praise FFXIV for it's true.To be perfectly honest, I didn't realize this was a necro'd thread until I had read most of it lol. As much as frequent forum posters here might object, FFXIV is doing very well for itself.

Having the worst designed healer classes I've ever seen in a video game and a combat development dictate to lobotomize, simplify, and drag every class down closer to drooling on one button for the duration of an encounter are -not- among them.
