I’m a little surprised to see this given that apparently Xbox rewrote a lot of internal policies specifically for this game. I know that Xbox was making a lot of unusual demands in the beginning (chat, their own servers, the paywall) but it seems that even if those issues are solved now they just don’t have the manpower to expand to another platform right now.
At the end of the day I’m sure this was a hard decision for Yoship to make, but I’m glad he’s looking out for the team and fans alike. Square might have the money, but the FFXIV doesn’t have the manpower or time, it seems. Also I imagine trying to do this in time for the expansion with most of the staff being WFH due to Covid would probably be a nightmare. The game would suffer for it.
It’s not ideal, but I don’t think this is an excuse as much as a valid reason. Sorry though, OP. That sucks.
I remember only that xiv was in talks, with no real ground made. You'd have to link an article, because otherwise I think you read too much into it. Otherwise it would be common knowledge.
Not wanting to step on your sympathies because I appreciate it. But I am a fan, so to me it dosnt feel like they are looking out for fans. Like I said I'm very frustrated that Xbox fans are being treated like second class citizens. So it feels very disheartening.I’m a little surprised to see this given that apparently Xbox rewrote a lot of internal policies specifically for this game. But thanks for the sentiment.
Unfortunately I would have to dig deep to find the articles. Aside from just looking up the XO2019 interview. And I just don't have the time to do that digging right now.

From July last year. Still nothing promising it coming to Xbox.

The article you mentioned, was Phil saying it, with no date or basis.
Thanks for doing the digging. Since Phil is the head of Xbox his word carries a lot of weight. And we know that they were being pretty accommodating with policies in regards to the porting process.https://gamingbolt.com/final-fantasy...me-on-xbox/amp

Yet, he is not square. He is not yoship. And he has only ever said "in talks" and "we'd like to". Never "it is coming" and certainly not "late 2020"
You assumed something based on a thing Phil said. That's on you.
And it just took 5 seconds to "dig" "ffxiv Xbox late 2020".
Google is an amazing tool.
Eh, not really.
Unless it comes from SE ( Yoshida or the CEO ) them self, it don't carry much weight at all.
