Microsoft’s cross play policy was fixed years ago. They have recently changed their gold requirements for F2P. And did you even read the article? Yoshi-P said they couldn’t port it anytime soon due to lack of resources. This is something you need to petition Microsoft about, since it's their policies holding back an Xbox FFXIV port, not SE. You'd essentially be paying two subscription fees to play XIV though, and you'd be in a bubble with other Xbox players because of no cross-platform support, so it's less than ideal, and 100% on Microsoft.
Well a new interview with Yoshi-P came out today and he gives a better answer on the subject. After reading it I have more hope for an Xbox port. Maybe even as early as mid-late 2022 after they have some breathing room after End Walker. Link to the article:

Apparently that has nothing to do with it based off a new interview with Yoshi-P. The port might even happen in the future now after End Walker based on what he said. Link to the new article.

It makes sense they want to focus on getting Endwalker completed and out on PS4/PS5 and PC prior to Xbox.Well a new interview with Yoshi-P came out today and he gives a better answer on the subject. "The worst foe lies within the self."
That doesn't make sense, the game isn't dumbed down because of console. Why do people ignore the existence of low end pcs?
I'm fairly certain they were being sarcastic.
PS3 did hold the game back.
Current gen PS4/5 does not.. maybe PS4 a bit, compared to what a PC can do.
It's clearly meant to be able to be read that way—because Phil is first and foremost a PR guy at his heart—hence the "we will be bringing" statement, but look closely: when it comes to anything concrete, he just says they have a good relationship with the producer and that they're working through what would be entailed."In addressing the press at X019, Spencer said, "I wanted you to know, rest assured that we will be bringing that game [Final Fantasy XIV] to Xbox. We have a great relationship with Yoshida-san [FFXIV director] and we’re working through what it means to bring [to Xbox] a cross-platform MMO that they’ve run for years.""
This literally insinuates that it will be coming.
That there's not a port coming for Xbox One X when there is for PS5 is disappointing. But so far as I know, there was never an outright commitment by Square confirming an Xbox port (nor even actual confirmation that Microsoft has finished revising the policies necessary to make it happen), just talk about how it'd be nice. So it's not like this is a delay or pushback on a planned/promised port, just a "yes, we'd like to do that, and it's something we can look into after Endwalker is out."
No doubt Square-Enix would like to make it work as well, because more players means more revenue. But nothing in this says there was a firm commitment from Square to such a port, much less any sort of release date set.
I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.Originally Posted by Packetdancer

PS4 explicitly does not. The developers have stated this directly. Sure, a high end PC can out perform a PS4, but they developers themselves now say that lower end PCs are what they're keeping in mind when restricting development in addition to the restrictions the crap code still in the game from 1.0 has place on the game.
I know, point was really more if anything did hold the game back it would be PS4.PS4 explicitly does not. The developers have stated this directly. I really want the game to come to xbox, and I don't even own one! So many new people will come to the game, and maybe even new servers will open up! It will be amazing! the more peole can play the game, the healthier it will be! And with the restrictions on free to play and sub games being removed on the xbox side, nothing is stopping yoshi-p. In the interview he said they are focusing on releasing endwalker and the ps5 version, and that they will have time to work on the xbox version after that! Which is amazing news! The xbox players will be lucky too! their first interaction with the game will have the free trial up to heavensward and arr will be better to go trough than it wonce was thanks to the rework it got! Overall I'm excited to get more people to play with!
