Combined Valentines and Little Ladies Day event

When I heard that the Valentines and Little Ladies Day events were going to be combined this year, I let out an audible groan and shook my head. I understand it's an xpac year and that with COVID it's possible that the dev team has too much on their plate or the schedule would not allow for two full events, but PLEASE in the future, let them be two separate events. I found the combination of stories with helping the young girl and having the Songbirds together was jarring. Valentines Day and White Day are related, but very different holidays. I like celebrating Valentines Day first (I'm American so I'm more familiar with this holiday) and getting into the spirit of it with the hearts and all the reds and pinks, plus the cute love based storyline. Then it's like a special present to get an event a month later in the form of Little Ladies Day where you get to see lots of sakura trees and decorations, a storyline centered around making a lady feel special or like a princess for a day. While these are related holidays in Japan, they are very different in feel for non-Japanese audiences and are executed so differently in Eorzea. I believe each of them deserves their own time to shine a month apart as they have been in the past. Please SE, I beg of you, don't smash these holidays together again in the future. Let them each enjoy their own theme and limelight as a way to break things up while we wait for content patches. Thank you for the awesome game you make and I'm excited for Endwalker in the fall.

They're not doing this because they want to. They're doing this because the alternative is not having one of them. The absence of a Halloween event was a huge disappointment, and while I'm not a fan of Valentine's and Little Ladies being fused into one event I have to say that they executed that significantly better than replacing Halloween with Make it Rain.

Expect more of these fused or underwhelming events in the future. SE are currently preparing an expansion launch that is happening later this year. It's already a tough job to create an expansion, never mind with the obstacles a pandemic brings. I don't expect in game events to go back to their previous quality until at least next year. Maybe after 6.0 but I think that's being optimistic.

The story was very nice. I enjoyed it. A shame the rewards were blah at best. Or be only one reward if you play hrothgar or viera. Sigh.

Seasonal events have always been inconsistent with their quality but they've always managed to put out each event on time and even had back to back events several times. I think that's been a point of pride for the events team that they've managed to keep things going like that. So the fact that they've been forced to combine events twice goes to show how disruptive the pandemic has been. Yet despite that I feel this event was well done; it had good dialogue, was a cute story and it blended both together very well. Aside from the lackluster rewards I don't feel like I've actually lost out on anything.

I hope things relent enough that they have the time to go back to a more normal event schedule but I honestly can't fault them for doing this. As much as I want more good content though, I want them to stay safe and healthy; all of them from Yoshi and the President to the interns and mail clerks, they all help contribute to making this game so good.

I haven’t done the quests yet but honestly I’m happy to cut them slack due to Covid. At least they’ve tried to include both events, where they could have scrapped one.
